Make Sure You Link Your Old Articles Correctly to Get More Views
Maximise links and earnings
You probably have been told to link old articles to your new ones to get more views. And it is true! It works.
But, the way to increase views and earnings, and maximise your link is by ensuring it is relevant. Let me explain.
Here are the stats for an article I published on 20th March 2021, called 5 Tips for Working with Influencers to Promote Your Business. It peaked a little at the start, and then fell and levelled out to 0–2 views daily, essentially earning me nothing every day.

But then on the 24th of May, it started getting views again.

Why the sudden increase?
Well, on the 24th of May I published an article about how social media is a waste of time when promoting a new business. It was about not needing social media in your business, and I suggested that the reader use an influencer instead. This suggestion directly related to my old article, 5 tips for working with influencers. So in order for readers to get the full information about that key point, they needed to click on the old article.
That’s the key. Make it necessary for your readers to click on old articles.
I linked the article in the step-by-step “How to do it” as seen below.

I did randomly link a few articles here and there throughout the article, and they did get some views. However, my readers were only there for the article they were on. They mostly didn’t want to click on another article unless it was directly related to what they were reading. That’s why it is so important that you ensure the linked articles are a reader necessity.
Yes, you can put in random links, or links at the bottom of your article, but if those links aren’t telling a reader what to do and giving them action, they won’t be clicked on as much.
So now this old article has earned me an extra $5. Not much, but better than the $0 it had been earning for two months prior. And that little extra is really vital for a new writer like me.
Think about this every time you write new articles. How can you make your old articles super relevant? Make it a key point in your article so that readers feel more compelled to click.
Having said that, I will end this piece by ironically adding links to some previous articles about writing :)
