It’s The Season For Giving

Some people have more money than they will ever need.

Although Jeff Bezos has been the richest person in the world at times and he now is said to have over $150 billion, he is not known for his philanthropy. His ex-wife MacKenzie Scott is becoming one of the most generous people on the planet with the billions she received from the divorce settlement.

Scott is one of the billionaires who signed the Giving Pledge which was initiated by billionaires Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. They asked other billionaires to join them in a pledge to give away most of their fortunes.

The Christmas season is a time for gifts and giving. Scott surprised a nonprofit by giving them a gift of over $2 million which they had not even applied for or expected.

A story by Chloe Berger in Fortune was titled: “MacKenzie Scott surprised a nonprofit with a $2.2 million donation it didn’t even apply for, as the billionaire continues to give away the bulk of her wealth.”

’Tis the season, and MacKenzie Scott is no Scrooge. Formerly the richest woman in the world, Scott is speeding along on her mission to redistribute her wealth and make a difference. The philanthropist’s latest donation: over $2 million to a small nonprofit in Cincinnati.

The city’s Crossroad Health Center, which offers medical assistance with the goal of keeping care “accessible and affordable” for all, recently received a whopping $2.2 million grant from Scott. While her foundation, Yield Giving, has been seeking applications from non-profits, the small faith-based organization never applied for funding, reported Liz Engel for the Cincinnati Business Courier.

The CEO of the nonprofit said he initially thought the emails about the donation were spam. The gift is worth about a decade of donations for them.

Scott has been donating money to groups that she believes are doing good work. She is following through on the Giving Pledge. She is said to still have $40 billion after all her donations, which have been about $16.5 billion to over 1,600 charities.

With all the billionaires in the world controlling so much wealth, it is a shame that more of them are not as generous as Scott in trying to assist in making life better.

Scott has helped many and has been an inspiration to millions of people through her generosity. There is so much need in this world. Hopefully, more billionaires will follow her lead.
