MacKenzie Scott Continues To Give And Give And Give
She is an example for other billionaires
Billionaires are able to live a lavish lifestyle
Although Jeff Bezos, as the richest person in the world at times, is not known for his philanthrophy, his ex-wife is giving away millions.
The “Giving Pledge” was originated years ago. Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, and other billionaires said they would give away most of their money by the time they leave this earth. MacKenzie Scott signed that pledge after she was left with billions after the dissolution of her marriage to Jeff Bezos. She is perhaps the billionaire who has received the most press for her donations of millions of dollars to worthy causes.
Does she want the publicity or is she just the one giving the most money away? She seems to be giving and giving and giving some more. She has been giving to many Black colleges.
In June 2010, the Giving Pledge campaign was formally announced and Bill Gates and Warren Buffett began recruiting members. As of August 2010, the aggregate wealth of the first 40 pledgers was $125 billion. As of April 2011, 69 billionaires had joined the campaign and given a pledge, and by the following year, The Huffington Post reported that a total of 81 billionaires had pledged. By May 2017, 158 individuals and/or couples were listed as pledgers. Not all pledgers are billionaires. [Wikipedia]
Paulina Cachero reported for Bloomberg that MacKenzie Scott has donated $436 million to Habitat for Humanity. This is the largest publicly disclosed gift she has given since she pledged in 2019 to give away the majority of her wealth.
She is doing a good thing for humanity by donating so much money to charities and organizations which need the help.
With many billionaires in the world controlling so much wealth, it seems that there should be more giving among them. They can share more of their good fortune to make the world a better place. It is not an equitable work and most likely never will be.
Why does one person or one family need so much money? There is no way they can spend it for their own needs. Sharing is advisable. All the billionaires could take a lesson from MacKenzie Scott.
The article in Bloomberg stated:
Scott, 51, is single-handedly reshaping non-profits, donating to organizations tackling social welfare, education, arts, health and more. She has given away as much as $4.3 billion in 375 grants since her divorce from Bezos. More than $1.6 billion has gone to education non-profits, including historically Black universities. She’s also contributed to social assistance organizations like Goodwill and YMCA.
Habitat for Humanity is an organization which helps people build their own homes. Former President Jimmy Carter has been very much involved with the organization, even physically helping build homes since he went the Presidency.
Not all the people who have joined The Giving Pledge are billionaires. Some are millionaires who are willing to share their wealth. All people can take a lesson from the generosity of MacKenzie Scott. Sharing should not be difficult when you have millions and billions of dollars. Many do give through their foundations. The ones who signed The Giving Pledge are doing a great service to others.
All that money came from Amazon, which means you may have contributed to these worthy causes.
We can’t all give away millions, but we may be able to help another who is less fortunate. Even sharing in a small way could make the world a better place.
