November Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “3”
Today’s Lunch Special: Dunk and Catch
Moorhens, also called Marsh Hens, are not ducks. They are members of a bird group known as Rails and are closely related to Coots. They are shy, reclusive birds usually found in thick vegetation. Moorhens can be found during warm months in the Northern United States, but they migrate south for the winter and are year-round residents in my state of Florida. I photographed these three at Sweetwater Wetlands Park in my city. Although I live on a lake, it’s too open for Moorhens who prefer hidden places. Sweetwater is a manmade wetlands but one that is the perfect habitat for these colorful birds.
