Lover I Have Yet to Love

I won’t think twice to spend the rest of my sunsets with you

I’ve been spending my life questioning the value of I love you’s after seeing how conditional love could be, thinking romance has lost its meaning in these modern times because love can be too overwhelming. So they tell us to numb our feelings if we want to survive in this cold cold world.

But in the midst of chaos, there’s you — the most beautiful chaos I’ll ever see.

I don’t have the slightest clue, how you look, sound, and smell. It’s funny, you can be somewhere across this world, thinking about things that won’t even cross my mind. But I know for sure. You’re warm, like the sun on a cold December morning. And soothing, like the ocean breeze on a hot August afternoon.

With you, falling in love isn’t some supernova explosion followed by an empty black hole. But it’s an asteroid that hit the earth — introduced water, introduced life.

You’re nothing like me, but excited about everything I’m into. You’re both home and places I’ve never been to. It’s exploring another side of the world without ever leaving the city. Maybe I loved you in another reality and promised you that I’d find you — because it feels like our soul touched long before our hands do.

We’ll love recklessly, irrationally, passionately. Like jumping from the cliff without thinking about the consequences. Screaming on top of buildings we aren’t allowed to. We’ll love like the last two people on this planet — and we’ll show them how to love again.

Our love isn’t gonna be a blazing firework. Instead, it’s gonna be a slow burn. Slow enough for you to study every inch of my flaws. And you’ll look at my demons then instead — fall for the very thing I thought you’d fear.

With you, it isn’t I love you because — but despite every imperfection, we make each other perfectly happy. As dark as I can be, I will always find enough light to adore you to pieces. Not just when it’s an ocean breeze, but also when it’s the biggest hurricane of the year.

Maybe our past was meant to be so damn broken, so when we find each other, we’ll be so strong we’ll defy against all odds that come our way. For once, I’ll understand that everything happened to lead me to you and shape me to appreciate you.

So to my soulmate, I hope this feeling gets to you. I don’t know who you are, but I know exactly how you’ll make me feel.

I might be unsure about a lot of things but this time, I won’t think twice to spend the rest of my sunsets with you.
