Summary

"Love Stays" is a poem that reflects on the enduring nature of true love amidst the transient and often lukewarm commitments of life.

Abstract

The poem "Love Stays" delves into the theme of love's constancy in a world where people and feelings are often fleeting. It emphasizes the importance of wholehearted commitment, rejecting the mediocrity of half-hearted relationships. The author expresses a desire for intense, passionate engagement in life and love, asserting that love is the only thing that remains steadfast. The poem suggests that love is inherently self-sustaining and does not require coercion to endure. It contrasts the permanence of love with the impermanence of other aspects of life, which are described as illusions or mere constructs of the mind. Ultimately, the poem conveys a message of reassurance that love, in its truest form, is a constant presence that never abandons, is never forgotten, and is the only reality worth holding onto.

  • The poem suggests that a life without passion, joy, and real love is not worth living.
  • It posits that everything outside of love is transient and insubstantial, not worth clinging to.
  • The author conveys a sense of freedom and peace in the realization that love is ever-present and unchanging.
  • There is an underlying trust in the inherent nature of love to remain, regardless of external circumstances.

Love Stays

A Poem

Everyone can go

Everyone can leave

I hold no prisoners here

Freely come

Freely go

Be in

Or be out

But please, not halfway

Lukewarm is death

Be hot

Be on fire

But please, not tepid

I want life

Joy

Passion

Let it be that

Or let it be gone

You are free

Love stays

We don’t have to fight for that

Love wants to stay

Love is here

It never left

Never forsaken

Never forgotten

Never ignored

Love was always here

I never had anything to fear

For love stays

Everything else is an illusion

Fragments of the mind

Nothing real

Let it go

For its nothing

Love is real

And real love stays

Because it wants to
