Songs have the power to transform you. For me, instant awakenings of the heart have happened through heart touching songs.

The song I present here reveals the heartfelt yearning of a Lover for the Beloved.

The background of the song is a traditional Indian society bridled with the division based on castes. In such a stone-hearted community, Shanichari (means, the Saturday born), sings this song for her beloved.

A Saturday born is considered unlucky in Shanichari’s village. Her life is such a constant struggle that the tears have gone dry. She wants to shed tears and her heart to melt.

A high caste man, Lakshman, falls in love with the low caste woman, Shanichari. Even if society forbids, where to hide the love that bursts forth with all its might?

Love doesn’t care for society’s rules. Wherever the fertile ground of heart exists, the flower of love blooms!

Lakshman empowers Shanichari and teaches her to stand up for herself. He motivates her to look into his eyes and talk, for, in love, there is no difference, no high or low, no caste or creed.

In this love song, Shanichari, the low caste, bares her heart for Lakshman, the high caste. This song is a rebellion against a society that enslaves.

In fact, Dil hoom hoom kare (My heart shivers and trembles) is not a mere song, it is a Prayer dedicated to Love itself, to Life!
