Love Listens
A poem
Five minutes, elapsed I cast a glance, expecting a sigh Expecting eyes trailed away He does not retract.
Fifteen minutes, elapsed I speak faster, ready to conclude He asks, “what happens next”? I continue, confused.
Fifty minutes, elapsed I speak slowly, I close my mouth My eyes apologetic for wasting his time “Tell me more”, he whispers.
Fifty five minutes, elapsed Anyways, moving on I say, Imploring him to speak He stares at me, confused.
Five hundred minutes, elapsed I tell my stories, without a pause I fill the room with words. He looks at me, relaxed.
Five months, elapsed How does he do it, I wonder How does he know the what’s , The when’s and the why’s of my heart?
Five reasons, he says I am the home to your stories I listen intently as he echoes the reasons Five minutes, elapsed, and I do not flinch.
