Love is My Name
For 2021, let your name be LOVE!

Ten-year-old Tommy Lynn was saving for a while to buy his first bike for Christmas. He had his paper route, but that alone wasn’t enough. He would hurry home after school every day, change quickly, do his homework, then go around his neighborhood to see if anyone needs help with anything. This continues for the next three and a half months until it was eight days before Christmas.
He had saved up enough money to get the bike he wanted. He knew his mother couldn’t afford it, and he wanted to prove to her that he was smart and responsible. He was waiting on her to take him to the store in the mall when she got her day off, which was in four days. On the final day of school, he noticed that Amanda Willis, his best friend was absent. As school dismissed he went to her house. She was sitting on her porch with a very sad look on her face.
“Hey,” Tommy said, walking faster towards her. She sat up as he approaches, tears escaping from her eyes.
“What’s wrong?” he asks.
She let out, “My daddy is in jail, he lost his job two months ago. We have no money to pay his fine. So we will have Christmas without him.”
Without a second thought, Tommy asks, “How much is his fine?”
“Oh Tommy, your mom is as poor as mine, where are you going to find $129.00?”
His eyes lit up and he pulls her off the porch saying, “I have an idea.”
He went home, took the box he was saving his money in from under his bed. They walked six blocks to the courthouse.
The security guard knew him, “Tommy, what are you doing here?”
“Can I see Justice John Hill?”
The security guard smiles and said, “Well, it’s Christmas and the court is no longer in session, so why not?” he reaches over and rubs the top of Tommy’s head, smiling. “Go ahead buddy, it’s the third door to the right.”
Inside, Justice Hill listened as they explained, then watched in amazement as Tommy and Amanda counted $129.00 from dimes, nickels, pennies, and quarters.
His eyes filled with tears. He instructs the Bailiff to bring Joe Willis to his office. Amanda rushes and hugs her father in tears as he entered the judge’s chamber. The Judge explains what just transpired to him, after granting him his freedom. Then he turns to Tommy and asks, “what’s your name young man?”
Before he could answer, Amanda eases away from her father, took his right hand, and said, “His name is Love.”
