Lost in Translation: A Journey To Remember
Turning strangers into friends on the road less travelled

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you couldn't find the words and felt utterly lost? Well, let me share a heartwarming experience that happened to me during a trip.
Imagine this — I'm in a new country on my first-ever international trip, feeling utterly clueless about where to go. Then, out of nowhere, comes my hero in his shining armour: a driver with a smile that could brighten up the entire town. The only challenge? We couldn't understand each other :)
Now that you have imagined my problem let me take you back to where it all began…
This story is from my recent travel to Thailand. Where I took a bus to reach Krabi from Phuket. The journey started as a typical bus ride with passengers getting down one by one, and guess what? I turned out to be the last one remaining, catching the attention of the Phi, our bus driver.
With a friendly smile, he informed me that we had reached the Krabi bus stand and asked about my destination. The catch? He spoke Thai, leaving me a bit lost in translation. Despite having the option to drop me there, considering it was a shared public bus, Phi's question marked the beginning of an unexpected adventure. And so, with a language barrier and a touch of curiosity, my real journey in Krabi began.

The Real Journey —
As mentioned, I took a bus from Phuket to Krabi, but it turned out that my stay was in Ao Nang, which is 15 km from the main Krabi town. In my defence, my stay address said Ao Nang, Krabi, so I reached Krabi.
But that was my lucky day as I had Phi with me, and he offered to drop by Ao Nang. With our smartphones as our communication bridge, we went on this journey. And hey, I wasn't alone! Phi's friend joined us from Krabi, turning our road trip into a party.
We communicated somehow using Google Translate, had some laughter and with shared confusion, we finally made it to the destination following Google Maps.
As we finally pulled up to where I needed to be, it wasn't just a drop-off. It was a farewell filled with handshakes, smiles, and a feeling that we'd shared something special.

Conclusion —
Ultimately, it wasn't just about reaching a destination but discovering the universal language of kindness, personal connections, the unexpected, and the stories that unfold along the way. Those moments with strangers turned friends reminded me that human connection is the essence of any journey beyond maps and technology. Here's to the unsung heroes we meet, turning a lost adventure into a heartwarming story.
Thanks to both the Phi's for helping me and making this memory invaluable.
