Lost In The Night, Lost To The Night

A time of deep reflection at the edge of nowhere

As deep in mythology as in outer space

The battle twixt Prometheus and Zeus

Continues apace.

One stole the other's fire and now he pays.

Zeus has but one saving grace.

An eagle eats out his liver and Zeus grows another

At and to the ends of his days.

Oh, and that tawdry cosmic affair between Venus and Mars

Has turned about face.

What else could you expect but a cosmic farce

That is but a reflection of the comings and goings of the human race.

And I sit as a sentinel on a rock

As lonely as a nun, or a priest on the run,

Or an errant schoolboy in disgrace.

I wander and I wonder and my mind runs amok.

Sometimes I wonder

What it’s all about.

Is it written in the stars ?

Can you read it in the tea ?

Can you find it in the bars

Of Tahiti ?

Or can you see it through the bars of Orion

With the eyes of a cat and the roar of a lion,

Is it looking for you ?

Is it looking for me ?

Or will you and I forever be

Lost in the night ?

Once I found love

Then I let it go

It slipped through my fingers

Like fast melting snow

I got down on my knees

I so wanted to pray

But I forgot the words

And I heard myself say....

I’m feeling lonely

And lost in the night

Love come and find me

Arrow take flight

Don’t let me be lonely

Lost to the night
