Lost in the city?
The feeling of getting lost, wandering around
Trapped in a labyrinth. Like in a chasm, steep walls rising up to the sky. The Steepest walls. Paths that meander in all directions.
Staring into the sky, the grey of the endless towers merges into the flow of a sea of grey veils. The view up seems even more endless, the view down causes dizziness.
Thousands of eyes staring at me, eyes that do not look at me. Observed, I walk on, turning, crossing, standing still, waiting to walk on.
Now I am standing in a ravine that is hardly different from the others. Wherever I arrive, the same blend of glass and concrete reveals its many facets. Rolling boxes of metal rushing by, the people inside stare at smaller shining boxes to escape into a more colourful world.
They are flowing past me from all into all directions. It is this river that has carved these valleys.
I allow myself to simply float along following the vortex of people. Where do I get lost today? Can I ever get lost if I never had a destination in mind?
All the hectic people, they know where to go. In stress, tapping their fingers and feet, anticipating to move on.
Now putting my headphones on. I block out the sounds of the noises. Everything adapts to the rhythms, what seemed to be chaotic now seems to be synchronized. Everything knows its own way. There is an order in chaos if you look closely.
This is my 21th post for the ILLUMINATION 30-day writing challenge by Dr Mehmet Yildiz described in this article.
