Lost In A Book
A poem for bookworms, who have experienced being unable to put a book down

Each word enraptures the mind, The book beguiles you with its spell, Each word steals a second of your time, In your thoughts, nothing else may dwell.
Your imagination sweeps you away, Off on an adventure like no other, You cannot let go of the story’s sway, It entices you like a lover.
The hands of time tick away so fast, You know not if it’s morning or night, You swear this chapter shall be the last, Before you know it, darkness is daylight.
A good book is a maze that tricks the mind, And you struggle to escape back home, You try to go back to the world you left behind, But you are glued to this engrossing tome.
You feel like Alice, lost in the rabbit hole, But like Sherlock, you must find out more. The thirst for knowledge burns your soul, As you dive into the lore.
Characters evil and good alike, You watch them wage battle on loyal steeds, They put up one hell of a fight, But good is rewarded for their deeds.
A princess and a handsome knight, They find their happy ever after, The way back home is now in sight, Leaving behind the anguish and the laughter.
You wave goodbye to all your new friends, And dive back to your own life, It’s bittersweet when a good book ends, Though with it all its strife.
Still there are more books to come, New adventures and realms to explore, Each book will get its day in the sun, But for now, you’re starting to snore.
Thank you for reading!
