Looking Through the Lens of Spirituality
You will see hope here
My wife and I went to visit our beautiful butterfly garden a few weeks ago. As you probably know if you read me regularly this is where I find solace. As I looked at the beauty there, I was once again in awe of my Creator’s handiwork.
I’m not able to explain the amazing things I see in that garden. There is absolutely no way that a bunch of random occurrences could have created the things I see. No way. To look at a butterfly and say that this gorgeous creature could be a random occurrence is missing the grandeur and miracle of life.
When I think of how amazing this garden is, my mind is led to look at life through a spiritual lens.
When I look at things through spiritual eyes, I feel more hope. The spiritual is more permanent. A spiritual solution doesn’t need a physical body to survive. There are spirits around us all the time. While this can be disquieting to those of us who rely on the things we can see and touch for validating that something is real, the spiritual world is a comfort to me.
You see this miracle in the beautiful landscape around you. Can you apply the same level of curiosity and awe to yourself? This can be challenging because the human species has caused so much pain and suffering to ourselves and to our beautiful planet. Humans, animals, and every other living being has experienced these challenges.
We all want to feel like our life has meaning. We want to believe that our existence influences those around us. We want to be important. We want to be heard and valued. This is normal. This is the way we are wired. In community with others, feeling like our opinions, our thoughts, and our actions are respected. This is the hope of every human being.
Who are you alive for? Are you here for yourself, or is your time here appointed to be someone’s angel?
Have you ever thought about why your life even exists? Are we just one big random bunch of atoms that got created for no reason?
These questions become easier to cope with when we can look through spiritual eyes.
I would hate to think that this extremely short physical life of mine is all I get to experience. I’m going to believe that the spirit will live on forever after my body disappears from this planet. Taking the long view gives me hope. It reminds me that whatever issues and problems I may have now are very temporary. This body is here for only a short period, but my soul will never die.
Looking through the lens of spirituality my life takes on a new meaning. It becomes richer and more hopeful. As I contemplate the goodness of my Creator, I am at peace.
Hope is what we all need more of today. The lens of spirituality will give us that.
