Summary

The website content is a call for passionate writers to contribute as weekly columnists for the new Medium publication, The Diarist, focusing on personal, engaging content on subjects they love.

Abstract

The creator of The Diarist, a fresh Medium publication, is actively seeking writers who are eager to share their passion through weekly columns. These columns should be written in a personal, diary-style format, although essayists are also welcome. The publication aims to provide a platform for journal writers, diarists, and essayists to publish their reflections, experiences, and thoughts. Writers are encouraged to submit their ideas via the submissions page or directly by email, with the possibility of joining the team if their subject matter aligns with the publication's focus. The publication is open to a variety of subjects, not just those traditionally associated with newspaper columns, and emphasizes the importance of dynamic and free thinking on Medium.

Do you have a subject you could just talk about all day? Is there something you could write about, and never feel forced to do it?… Mmm, me too! You’re in the right place, check this out:

As the creator of a new publication here on Medium, I have a vision for The Diarist and the kind of content /writers I’d love to have within it — for readers. I’d like to ask any writer who is drawn to the idea below to reach out:

  • Writing one article weekly for a column — on a subject they are passionate about, in an informal/personal, engaging, diarist style. Or if you’re more of an essayist, that’s cool too.
  • Publishing on a certain day of the week.

If this sounds like your thing get in contact via the submissions page. I myself am planning to focus on a weekly column for The Diarist, along side my writing commitments to other niche publications on Medium. Join me if you want.

Columnists’ subjects?

To keep this call for submissions short and sweet, and not repeat myself, there’s full details on the submissions page on the areas I’m seeking articles for. Have a look here under: what submissions am I seeking for The Diarist .

Alternatively, if you have a specific subject in mind, that’s not shown in the above section, and it fits inline with the focus of this publication, feel free to email me with the idea: [email protected].

If the subject you have in mind is a great fit, I’d love to welcome you to the team. If not I will tell you honestly and respectfully why I can’t consider your subject.

FAQ: aren’t columnists for newspapers? Isn’t a column usually a journalistic style of writing?

Ah-ha, yes in theory, but not always. Typically you’d find weekly columns in newspapers and magazines, with dedicated columnists writing on/about a subject. They normally have a focus, politics, sports, dating, cooking etc.

That said, when done right, I feel weekly columns on the right subjects could do well for The Diarist. But most importantly — I want to do it for this publication, so… who cares what’s done elsewhere? We’re free thinkers and dynamic here on Medium!

What’s this publication about?

Created on the 22nd of December 2023, The Diarist is every journal writer’s, diarist’s, and essayist’s place to be. I’d take a guess possibly it’s a dream come true for anyone who identifies with these forms of writing.

The place where essays, journal prompts, reflections, day-to-day experiences, and deep thoughts are shared and celebrated. Diary writers from all walks of life, and every corner of the world tell their stories one thought at a time, in a classic diarist style.

Interested?

Can you commit to a weekly column with a great subject matter? Do you have an engaging writing style? An excellent (okay good then), standard of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation?

Great.

Get in contact, in your email please include the draft link to anything you wish to submit, and indicate what subject matter you’d like to write weekly. Also follow the publication The Diarist.
