Look What Happens When You Plant a Bathtub!
Six Word Photo Story: Freestyle
Bathe with splashes of brilliant color.
I walk by this garden when I take Chilli on her morning stroll. The contents of the bathtub change, according to the seasons. The owner is big on recycling, and the garden is full of non-traditional pots— in the top right, you can spy another bathtub.
I live in an older suburb that’s undergoing a lot of redevelopment. Often I’ll see smashed bathtubs in skip bins headed for the rubbish tip. It seems such a waste when bathtubs can be repurposed.
As well as flower or vegetable containers, I’ve also seen bathtubs turned into fish ponds, while another tub was filled with ice to make a huge drinks esky*.
All options are preferable over landfill.
*Esky. Australian translation: In the US, an esky is called a cooler, cool box in the UK and chilly bin in New Zealand. For everyone else, it’s an insulated box you dump ice into so you can keep drinks cool.
Esky was the first registered brand name of a cool box in Australia, and the name just stuck.
