Lonely Winter Day

Memories

Photo by Maurice Sahl on Unsplash

The wind is howling around the house.

Snow is falling fast. Temperatures plummet.

And you are not here.

The fireplace is cozy. The flames warm the air

that touches my skin like soft hands.

But you are not here.

The crackling of the firewood

whispers in my ear as once did your voice.

And I know you cannot be here.

The glow of the fire caresses my face,

touches me — as you used to do

when you were still here

with me.

We lost you on a beautiful day in the spring,

but it is on these cold winter nights

that I miss you most keenly, my dear.
