“London Bridge has Fallen Down”
When the death of Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II, happens, this is the code name that will begin a process.
I am a Royalist. I have a deep and abiding respect and love for the Queen of England. I will be devastated when she is no longer around, as she has been a constant bridge from the old to the new.
The only downside to the Institution of the Royal Family is that it enforces a class system like no other, but then the alternative is a celebrity class and I’d take the Royals over a bunch of Oscar or Bafta nominees any day.
The code name for Her Majesty’s passing is:
London Bridge is Down
From the moment she is pronounced dead, a series of events occurs that is pre-planned down to the smallest detail. Our generation/s has not witnessed anything like it in our lifetime. It will be the biggest funeral we have ever witnessed.
She has been on the throne since 1952. Most of us were not born and we only know one Queen. She is the longest-reigning monarch in UK history.
She is the Patron of over 600 Charities and Organisations and is the Head of the Commonwealth. She is the Head of State and plays a pivotal role in relations with many countries. Her role is more of a ‘light touch’ but it is no less influential and powerful.
She is admired and her opinion is respected. Her passing will be the catalyst for a great many changes around the world. She has sat on the throne for more than a dozen UK Prime Ministers; nearly 20 summer Olympics; and more than ½ dozen Popes.
Her death, when it happens will be relayed quickly and privately to the Prime Minister of the UK by her Private Secretary, The Right Honourable Edward Young, that message will simply read:
London Bridge is Down.
The PM of the day will set plans for London Bridge into action. He will immediately inform the 15 Governments for which the Queen is Head of State, over a secure line. This will be followed quickly by the other 36 Commonwealth Nations and leaders around the world, of whom she is the leader. And then Leaders of Allied countries like the USA and EU.
The gates of Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the Queen, will then adorn a simple black edge notice announcing her passing.
Simultaneously with that announcement, a news flash will alert media around the world that the Queen has passed. Every media outlet around the world is prepared for this one occasion. They will flash the news across the screens of every channel in the world.
All normal BBC broadcasts will cease and all comedy shows will be pulled as a sign of respect until after the funeral. All newsreaders will change into specially prepared black suits that are kept at the station in readiness for such an event.
The traditional BBC red branding will turn black.
Newspapers, radio stations, and tv channels have programs specially selected to display during this time, and they have been prepared in advance, with added pieces constantly being spliced into the programming.
Prince Charles, her eldest son, will immediately become King. It is reported that the Stock Exchange, shops, and businesses will likely close for the day out of respect.
The day after her death, on a live stream, King Charles will make his first official speech as King and reigning monarch of the UK and its plenipotentiaries. The entire House of Commons and Lords will immediately swear allegiance to the new King during which a 41 gun salute will be performed in Hyde Park, London.
King Charles, if this is the name he chooses to be called, will then set off around the UK on a tour of Edinburgh, Belfast, and Cardiff, meeting with the leaders of those countries, before returning to London for the Laying in State ceremony of his mother.
4 days after her death her coffin will be drawn by a military procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, where she will lie in state for a further 4-days. After which the family, special guests, Lords, and dignitaries will pay respect. Then the doors will be opened to the likely hundreds of thousands of people wishing to pay their respects.
The funeral will take place 10–12 days after her death and be a Bank holiday. The Stock Exchange will close for a second time in under 2-weeks and many businesses will follow suit.
On the day of the funeral, at 11 am sharp, the bells of Big Ben in the Elizabeth Tower will toll and the country will fall silent. The coffin will be brought into Westminster Abbey where 2000 special guests will pay respects.
After the service, the coffin will be taken to Windsor Castle and finally to St George’s Chapel where Queen Elizabeth II, it is believed, will be laid to rest beside her father King George VI.
It is likely, that a year after the funeral, an official coronation for King Charles will take place on another Bank holiday. And that Prince William will be made Prince of Wales, a title passed from the reigning monarch to the future King of England. All Monarchy of England is firstly made Prince/ss of Wales while in waiting, as is the situation with Charles, who is the current first son of Elizabeth II and the current Prince of Wales.

In addition, hundreds of changes will come into effect. New British stamps and currency will be printed and the old phased out, Portraits of the Queen will be replaced by those of the new King, the military insignias could change, passports will change, as the new portrait will be of the new King, Charles, and the National anthem will change to God Save the King.
It is expected that some Commonwealth countries could use this moment to sever ties with the Monarchy. It will be a time of huge sadness and great change in the UK.
But irrespective of where you sit on the scale of love for the Queen, nobody can doubt her service to her country and her incredible hold over a nation.
This will be the end of an era.
