Logistics of Judgments

Poetry prompt day:-14

Ridicule will change into respect if we dare to change places. Stand in a poor person’s shoes for a day. Then talk about dreams, ambitions, and self-aggrandizement. For millions of people, food security is the dream and life’s achievement.

Sexism would take a backseat if we had to swap places with a young single mom. She perseveres through the guilt of leaving her children at daycare to be a professional. She sacrifices her youth for the future of her kids. She breaks the glass ceiling just to gain an iota of recognition.

Racism would be difficult to maintain as an ideology if the fates were reversed. Most of us will not be able to survive even for a generation. Some of us live a tumultuous, fearful existence because we have darker skin. Some of us never get the same opportunities as others because of exclusionary treatment.

It’s easy to pass judgments. It’s hard to contemplate the devastating effects of our judgments on others. It’s easy to dismiss someone because of perceived differences. It’s hard to evaluate the psychological trauma our dismissal entails on others.
