Living In A Haunted House

When the spiritual realm meets the physical

When I was a child, my friends & I had a fascination with point horror stories & thriller/horror movies watching The Exorcist, Child’s Play, I.T to name a few (these are extremely scary when you’re not old enough to watch them).

I remember going to Wales for our end of primary school trip and staying up late with the other children, we would tell each other made up ghost stories and catch a thrill of getting chills.

By the age of 19, I was about to encounter some terrifying, real life experiences that would completely turn off my love for the horror genre to the other end of the spectrum.

“… there are spirits in your home!”

I was at university at a weekly extra-curricular society where many would hang out listening to my neighbors Andrew & Eddie Kade share their jokes (Eddie has gone so far in comedy now!)& other members giving presentations that would lead to debates.

One evening at this society, an announcement was made that they were going to share a video & that most may want to leave as it was going to be “deep". So curiosity killed the cat & my friends & I decided to stay.

The video highlighted terrible subliminal messages in some music and later it was followed by a prayer. It was very interesting and life-changing.

At the end of this meeting, a stranger came up to me and said “You better go and pray in your house as there are spirits in your home.” Then he walked off. Now, this guy didn’t know any of my friends/roommates & he was shockingly right…

The Haunted House We Lived In

I lived with my two university friends and from the day we moved in, we were scared and I mean scared!

Strange things happened in this home, footsteps when no one was walking, heavy breathing heard in your ear when no one was there. Opening our friend’s wardrobe and at the back of her clothes seeing stickers that weren’t there before saying ‘Carcass 1, carcass 2…’ (And no, these weren’t pranks, trust me we investigated). Having friends visit and begging us to come upstairs when they needed to use the bathroom.

I remember a friend visited us and started calling another friend’s name (who wasn’t there) saying she saw her in the kitchen. She was utterly convinced she saw her and no she wasn’t hallucinating these types of bizarre sightings occurred and spooked us all. It got to the point where none of us wanted to be in the house alone or sleep alone. I really don’t know how we got through a year of living there!

Back to the stranger

I stood in shock as I watched the stranger leave. I quickly walked up to him as I wasn’t satisfied with him leaving me in suspense! His words echoed in my mind and I had to find out why he told me what he did.

I asked him numerous questions. It was clear he didn’t hear about any of the scary events at the house yet he told me that when he saw me, he saw what was going on in the house. He further informed me that I needed to be the one to pray… we exchanged numbers to stay in touch if I had any more questions.

The Day Came…

Weeks passed by without confronting the weird encounter, I had made my mind up not to pray and address these spirits as I didn’t feel ‘qualified’. Anyone who had watched The Exorcist wouldn’t want to get involved in rebuking spirits without any authority or experience.

However, on this very day, we were going to host a party and the words of the man came back to me loud & clear. I had a compelling feeling that today was the day we had to confront fear and take action. I spoke to my friends & we agreed to try it together.

We stood nervously in the smallest bedroom while my friend read some scriptures, suddenly the bedroom door opened and we heard footsteps followed by the creak of the floorboard that was outside one of the other bedrooms and steps down the stairs. We were petrified! Tears flowed down our faces and I felt we had opened Pandora’s box and now everything was going to get worse.

All of a sudden, an overwhelming, peaceful presence surrounded us pushing fear to the side, I suddenly knew what to say and what to do, it was as if I was given supernatural strength to deal with it.

The Next Day

We were shocked to say the least by all that happened the day before & thankful that we had decided to act on the words of the man. The atmosphere in the house felt very different, it was so much more tranquil.

I remember closing my eyes falling asleep at night, then a thought woke me up; “Open your eyes.” When I opened my eyes, my room was filled with a glowing red/orange light. Then another thought popped in my head, “Go to the window.” As I approached the window, I saw flames. Wild, fiery flames were burning the garden fence approaching my bedroom window.

I called the fire brigade and woke up my room mates.

“All we saw was a fire start from nothing!”

The firefighters thankfully arrived quickly and dealt with the fire. Our neighbors were outside & they informed us that they had also called 999 (Emergency services) & while being questioned they reported, “All we saw was a fire start from nothing.”

The Phone Call

My mobile phone rang very early the day after the fire, it was the man.

“Something happened, didn’t it?”

I explained that we prayed, told the spirits to leave and about the fire. It was as if he already knew. He told me that he had a feeling that something had happened & he believed that the fire was a retaliation against us doing the prayer…

These spiritual & fiery events opened the door to many more situations of the spiritual realm meeting the physical.

It’s all vivid as if it were yesterday. Thankfully I got stronger in facing my fears and even though it took a whole lot of strength to move into a home by myself years later, I managed to and not all spiritual experiences have been as dreadful, instead many have been the same feeling of peace that I felt many years ago.
