Living In A COVID-19 World

A rhyme for this crazy time

If anyone told me back in March

We would all have to stand six feet apart

Wear a mask when it was not Halloween

Scrub our hands super clean

That millions of people would die

And relatives couldn’t personally say goodbye

I’d laugh and say they’d lost their mind

But here we are — in a very dark time

Covid 19 has certainly rocked this world

Affecting every man, woman, boy and girl

Thrust upon all of us out of the blue

We looked to our leaders to know what to do

But, mixed messages were all we received

Can’t someone just step up and take the lead?

This is the time we should all be united

Why then, is this country so divided?

With all the drama and conflicting advice

Every American is left to our own device

Taking precautions to prevent the spread

Is the right thing to do…at least in my head

So, every day we live with this threat

Adapting and changing as there are needs to be met

We worry and stress over what is to come

And pray for the health of our dear loved ones

We also pray for the world as a whole

May everyone be safe — both young and old

Let this sickness be gone from our lives

Until then though, a strange world presides

This new existence is full of oddity

Who knew toilet paper was such a hot commodity?

Lysol wipes — where are they sold?

Find them and it’s as if you’ve struck gold!

School is virtual, work is at home

Am I ever going to get some time alone?

My voice has spoken so many new words:

Social distance, furlough and flatten the curve

I have now become a TV freak

The Morning Show and Schitt’s Creek

Have given me something to look forward to

But then they end, and I need something new

Eating dinner outside in 30 degrees

Wrapped up in blankets so you don’t freeze

Conflicts with family who don’t see your view

Never knowing the right thing to do

Cleaning and disinfecting like never before

Using a tissue to open a door

See someone sneeze and you jump out of your skin

Hear someone cough and they’ve committed a sin

I once took for granted all the simple pleasures

Now I realize those were things to be treasured

A trip to the movies, a night out with friends

Don’t know what you got, until it all ends

But I have my family together and we have our health

I consider these blessings an abundance of wealth

I’ve learned pretty quickly nothing is for sure

First, it is here…and then it is no more

So find the good, for that is all you can do

Until this horrific, persistent pandemic is through

Imagine a bright future, not doom and gloom

I know in my heart better days are coming soon!
