Every single one of us have life aspirations, dreams and goals that we want to work towards. Bucket lists that we made when we were kids or after college. And yet we found ourselves in our beds watching Netflix rather than hiking the Kilimanjaro. That is the hard truth that we don’t want to face.

I hope you don’t find yourself in this category and that the Kilimanjaro is your week-end hike. But if you are like I was and am from time to time, read those 5 tips and try implementing them. It’s a long and scary process, and yet it’s worth every little effort that you might put towards it.

Start to walk towards the person you aspire to be.

Fight for a cause

This is the first and most important step of them all. The reason is really simple.

How can you aim for something if you don’t have a target ?

Every single person wants to find their life purpose. Most of us don’t even know what we like and even less what we want to do in life. This result in a random shooting in the dark, hoping for an ok outcome, or if we live in a fantasy world, being right in the bull’s eye of life.

This method never works, even those who end up winning the lottery fill up for bankruptcy after a little fun. No target means no goals and no path which leads to waste of time and money.

If you are reading this it means that you don’t want this outcome to be your life. You want to make something out of your time and brain. I wrote an article on finding your Ikigaï. For those who are not familiar with the concept, it’s a Japanese word that means life purpose. If you want details about it, feel free to go read it.

Having your life purpose figured out or at least goals that you want to work towards will make your life so much easier. Knowing where you want to go will help finding the path and the actions required to get to your target.

This is also the motivation that is needed to wake up every morning and start working for a better life and a better world. Without purpose, we feel numb and useless. This is what we are made for, fighting for our dreams. Take life as a game with different levels and bosses to beat. Collect as many achievements as humanly possible to be the MVP of life.

Stop being lazy

That goes without saying that laziness is your worst enemy for anything that needs effort and sacrifices. And this is exactly what a fulfilling life requires. Nothing can be done while watching Netflix, mindlessly scrolling through Instagram or getting angry on video games.

I am not saying that any of those can’t be your life goal, there is a way to make it your purpose and life aspiration. You want to be a professional e-sport player ? Stop being lazy playing an hour a day, rage-quitting on Call of Duty. It requires a lot of work to be great at something and video games are not an exception. It is a real work and a real work is at least 35 hours a week to be average.

Nothing can be done without effort. Get out of your couch and work for your life, work for yourself, work towards a better version of yourself.

Face your fears

“ I love fear, because behind every fear there is a person you wanna be.” Greg Plitt

This quote is really inspiring and great to look at to find a new perspective on what fear really is. Fear is actually only a defence mechanism towards things that could potentially hurt us. This is why the most common fears are height, harmful animals and unknown. The latter is a more modern one, but still present for a lot of people.

Are they worth listening to ? Most of the time absolutely not. Of curse, if there is a huge bear in front of you there is every reason to be scared and you should be. This doesn’t happen in our everyday lives and it will never happen for most of us.

The biggest reason of fear is failing. We are scared or messing things up, especially when it comes to life goals. So we up listening to it and avoiding the failure by not doing it at all. And we spend the rest of our life wondering what would have happened if we tried it out. What if we asked her or him for a coffee ? What if we moved to our dream city ? What if we posted that first picture ? What if we launched that first business ?

So many what ifs that will never have any answers only because of fear. Don’t let that be your life. Don’t be the person that lets fear lead his life and that is on his death bed wondering what his life would have been if he overcome this little fear of the unknown.

Be kind

Having a better life doesn’t involve only yourself. Your surroundings have a huge part to play in this. A good life can’t be one of constant battles against the world. We all need friends and allies, they don’t come to you only become of your pretty face. We are attracted to the things we want and admire, to common values and interest.

We also want to feel good about ourselves, to be comfortable with who we are. Kind people give us this opportunity to have a feedback from the outside to point our qualities and show our worth.

Either you make someone’s day a little better or a little worst. There is no in between, you always have an impact on others. Be the person that people remember as a little light in their day not the one that made them lose their time.

Only kindness and empathy will win in the end. Even though we might feel rejected by being too nice with others, especially at a young age, life is a long game and those are long term moves. Haters are going to see all their loved ones leaving them one by one until they end up alone. When the kind and uplifting will get more and more people surrounding him and giving him back what he gave them, happiness.

Experiment

“ Do what you can’t ” Casey Neistat

Look at the video linked in the quote above. Let it sink and apply that to your life. What feedback do you get out of it ?

As I said above, life is a long game with levels and achievements. You can do whatever you want in life. You can go anywhere you want, with whoever you want at any time you want. Some choices are obviously bolder than others, but still it is possible. As long as you follow the law.

Life gets boring when the same routine is repeated for too long. This is why some relationships die, same goes for friendships and works. Try new things in your sexual life, travel far away, quit your job. The goal is to get out of your comfort zone to go after your dreams.

Keep in mind that there is a difference between bold choices and stupid choices. Think about what you really want and take measured risks.

Now it is time to on and follow your dreams. Put a 110% effort towards your life. This is really cheesy to say, but you have only one life, only one shot to accomplish your goals. Take it like a game where you set the achievements. Only can make it the way you want. This is and will always be your call and yours only.
