Live Without Regret

Philosophy on life

Denzel Washington, one of my favorite actors was asked in an interview, “If you could go back in time and change anything, what would that be?” His response was very brief and delivered in the cool and charismatic tone because he is Denzel after all.

“I wouldn’t change anything, because everything I have done throughout my life has made me the man I am today.” — Denzel Washington

Although the response was brief, the message I got was extensive. In order to be at peace with your past, you have to be content with who you are right now. As far as I’m concerned, whatever I may have done in the past can never be changed. Dwelling on that fact sabotages my personal advancement. If you live your life looking over your shoulder, you will never know what is in front of you. The best way to grow is to identify and learn from your mistakes, as well as to understand and feed your strengths.

In a world filled with fake people, try to stand out. Embrace your flaws and never fake perfection. Be the best version of yourself by staying true to who you are. Focus on ethical progress and fight for what you believe in without surrender. Live free, stay awesome, and regret nothing. Understand that you are human and that you are subject to error. Make mistakes, step on a few toes, apologize, and learn. That is living!

As a storyteller, I try to connect with people. I can only hope to make a positive impact on those who will hear me. My favorite quote on this comes from scripture.

“Iron sharpens iron, and so does a man sharpen the countenance of his friend.” — Proverbs 27:17

This is a principle I try to live by.
