“Many people spend their lives in a state of almost permanent dissatisfaction.” — Eckhart Tolle

My wife recently sent me a short video of Oprah interviewing Eckhart Tolle about his book “A New Earth.” It was what I needed to snap out of the cycle of negativity brought on by this year.

You can watch the video or read these highlights.

Tolle spoke of how people spend their lives unhappy and always looking for that end goal to be satisfied. They spend their days dissatisfied, unhappy, and merely surviving.

You cannot be happy through some future goal, Tolle explains.

“You have to become one with your present moment.” — Eckhart Tolle

You have to go beyond the state of dissatisfaction; you cannot do it through some future goal.

“There’s always this one step, give it your fullest attention. This means the step you are taking is primary, and the destination is secondary. What you encounter at your destination depends on the quality of this one step.” — Eckhart Tolle

Whatever you are trying to do, whether it’s finding your purpose or reaching your goal, focus on doing the one step you have right now to the best of your ability.

Focus on being happy doing what is in front of you at this moment.

You will never experience the future as “the future.” The future comes as this moment. Life is always the now, not a future experience.

It’s not about the end.

People live life for the end as if it is more important than HOW you reach your end goal.

“The end and means are one.” — Eckhart Tolle

Being unhappy and dissatisfied with the present moment means THIS IS HOW will experience the future.

“As the future is only an extension of now.” — Eckhart Tolle

The future will carry the energy of what it took to get there, Oprah explains. You determine what kind of future you will experience.

Your state of consciousness now will determine what is manifested in the future.
