Literacy Makes You Powerful
When you write, you make a case for something. And if you make the best case, then you win.
Throughout recent history if a group of people were trying to oppress some other group of people, the last thing they wanted them to be was literate. The oppressing group knew that being able to read, write and articulate themselves would give the oppressed group the power to break free. It is that plain and simple. Being able to express yourself in an articulate manner makes you dangerous and impossible to conquer.
The so much blamed educational system is the same institution that enables a young individual to develop into a thinking, wondering, adventurous and untrainable human being; it’s just that in this day and age we blame the system for producing the same offsprings over and over again, the kind of people that can easily be oppressed and influenced, instead of taking full responsibility for our situation and learning where the system needs to be modified and why.
There are many people out there just waiting to be lead by people who are able to write and communicate their message for a change. The majority of people, that is. And it’s sad to see this societal degeneration.
In these modern times everybody is trying to learn to code instead of writing; it is much more important for people to be able to communicate with machines than it is to be able to communicate to each other. But whatever the immediate advantages might be about being able to develop a new app, it will not measure up to being able to persuade and influence people whenever life throws a challenge our way.
