Do you want a sleek and classy domain name that leads your fans to a Medium publication or your personal profile? You can do this very quickly. This method is completely independent of Medium. This is a fast and easy hack that requires zero knowledge of name servers.

I do not wish to change the URL for my Medium blog. I like mine because it is ChrisWeberWrites.Medium.com. I like to joke that I write everything on Medium and the other writers are all me. I have many pen names.

Despite this joke that never gets old, I did want to secure the name of my book by buying the domain name www.agesofirony.com. I use Google for anything I can because it makes my life easier. If you are about to get a new domain name, I recommend Google Domains.

With Google Domains, it has never been more simple to route a domain name to your publication, blog, or any other website on all of the web. You could even route it to your Facebook page if you want. I prefer to keep mine as is. Facebook.com/weberwrites suits me just fine.

Here are the three steps for routing a new domain from Google Domains to anywhere on the world wide web.

You need to pick a custom URL and enter it in the bar on the home page for Google domains. If your domain name is available you can start the next step. If you already have a domain name, this page has a link for transferring it to Google Domains.

Purchase your domain name by giving Google some money. My URL costs about $15 per year. It automatically renews and Google charges your credit card annually. One more step and you never have to visit the site again.

The third step is easy. After you have paid for your URL, Google asks what you would like to do with it. You can now forward all traffic to this domain name by entering a link to the target account. It might take up to a day to start working. Google had traffic flowing through mine within a few hours. I can change the destination whenever I want.

You can also go the traditional route by taking the information from Google Domains and entering it into Medium’s forms. This would keep your domain name at the top of the page. You will notice mine still says that I write all of Medium, I think I will keep you as one of my pen names.
