LIMITED Time Only: 2 Publications Now Accepting Story Submissions!

Do you have any black related or previously published stories that got ignored?

For one week only, I’ll be accepting story submissions for two of my existing publications that I managed to neglect in 2021.

Both my Black Like Me and my Just Like New publications began as a way to do two things:

  • Provide another cool platform for myself and anyone who likes writing stories specific to African Americans and black people everywhere. I created the publication for uplifting stories — not debate, controversy, or negativity in any way.
  • Provide another alternative for writers who have previously published stories (on any topic), that received little, to no recognition.

Unfortunately, my attempt at being a Medium editor and available to other writers was short lived.

Feel free to read all about me throwing in the towel on these publications, and my sound reasoning for doing it. It can shine a little more light on my strengths, as well as my shortcomings.

Insight about those characteristics specifically relate to my being an editor, with other writers to answer to.

  • It will help you appreciate why my current Daily Justiss publication has been the only one I’ve been actively focusing on these past months.
  • It will also help you understand why I choose to put a limitation on the practice of accepting submissions that I’m offering now.

In spite of my deciding not to take anymore submissions for those publications, recently, I notice that a few writers have shown interest in the publications, indicating the theme of the publication must have been a worth while one.

So thanks to the following people (who were previously accepted to write for Black Like Me), this publication will be accepting submissions:

During the submission period, the above writers do not need to reapply to start submitting their new or previously published stories.

The same is true for these writers who prompted the return of Just Like New. A few writers were more than happy to send a couple of stories for me to publish. Now, a few more have joined in the request, so I listened to my readers, and I’m inviting the following writers to submit more stories this upcoming week. You can thank these folks for this limited time offer:

So thank you:

Submissions will only be accepted when indicated below, and not a day longer

Although I’ll be accepting submissions for the two publications already mentioned, I’ll only be doing it for one week.

* SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED BEGINNING: Saturday — January 1, 2022

* SUBMISSIONS ENDING: Saturday — January 8, 2022

Don’t wait until the last minute to submit

Story submission guidelines for both publications are provided below. Please remember that NO SUBMISSIONS will be received after the ending submission deadline, so please get your stories in, sooner than later.

I’d prefer to have the stories come in over the course of the week, so I can organize and position them in a strategic way that does them justice (no pun intended).

All stories — in both publications — will be categorized according to a specific tag, but stories will automatically sort themselves in that tag, according to the date a story is first published.

I will, however, choose to feature various stories on a regular basis, so your story gets yet another opportunity to shine at its’ brightest.

I look forward to publishing and reading all your submissions, and hopefully, the stories begin to receive the attention and visibility they deserve.

This invitation is extended to all Medium writers, new, or existing, and I welcome diverse and unique topics, so bring them on!

Where should requests to write for EITHER publication be made?

I figured out a way for me not to have a problem bouncing from page to page, checking two different publication requests.

I’ve designated ONE STORY/PAGE for ALL requests, but it is NOT ON THIS PAGE. To submit your name for one or both publications, please:

HERE IS WHERE YOU CAN SUBMIT ALL REQUESTS TO BE A WRITER

During the submission period, all individuals will be accepted and added to the publication as a writer, within 24 hours of their request. Once you see that you’ve been added, you can proceed to submit a story.

Please follow these story guidelines for both publications.

BLACK LIKE ME — Publication theme and submission guidelines:

Please keep in mind, the focus is on positivity, and not confrontation, so be respectful and follow Medium rules, guidelines and online etiquette.

“Black Like Me is an inclusive publication, open to submissions from everyone, however, the focus is exclusively on all things “black” whether it’s history, current or past social injustice, or general topics pertaining to the future of African Americans and black people everywhere.”

For my submission policy for this particular publication, you may only submit ONE story. I’ll be accepting both drafts and previously published stories, however, please consider my original guidelines to understand what you will not be getting in me as an editor.

For instance: “I don’t want to be responsible for pouring over tons of stories to organize, analyze, scrutinize, or edit.”

If you require something more you may want to reconsider submitting your story. “ I think it’s only fair that I tell anyone who would like to submit their stories.”

This is a list of the 5 category tags the publication uses. This should give you some indication of what to write or submit, and how to tag the story for proper categorizing.

Please choose only ONE of these specific tags.

  • Future in Black |use the TAG = Current Affairs
  • Historic Events | use the TAG = Black History
  • Phenomenal Women |use the TAG = Black Women
  • Social Justice | use the TAG = Social Change
  • Notable Facts |use the TAG = Miscellaneous

JUST LIKE NEW — Publication theme and submission guidelines:

If you’re looking for a home for previously published Medium stories, this just might be the solution. No matter what category you’ve been writing for, your stories are still welcome.

The aim is to help get you a little more visibility. “Of course, there’s no guarantee that this will help your stories stand out and finally get the recognition they deserve, but at least it’s one more shot at the possibility.”

For this publication, you’ll be allowed to submit a maximum of 3 stories (all at once if you want to). Please be sure to look the stories over and give them a good dusting off.

Just like with the above publication, you will be responsible for your own typos, formatting, editing, etc.

I can only promise that I’ll respond to your requests to write for the publication in a timely way, and I’ll be sure to get your stories published in an appealing way.

This is a list of the 5 category tags for this publication.(Choose the ONE that’s most suited for your story)

Please choose ONE of these:

  • Advice | Life Lessons — TAG = “Life lessons”
  • Family | Relationships — TAG = “Relationships”
  • Newsworthy Events — TAG = “Current events”
  • Personal Experiences — TAG = “Personal Essay”
  • Short Stories — TAG = “Short Story”
  • This N That — TAG = “Miscellaneous”

Final Thoughts

I’m hopeful that this time around, these two publications will not only attract the attention of writers who want to have their stories published, but also of readers, who thirst for lots of great stories to read.

Remember:

  • The submission period is for a limited time only [1/1/22–1/8/22]
  • You can submit to one or both publications
  • You can submit new stories to BLM and previously published stories to both publications
  • You can submit one story to BLM and 3 stories to Just Like New
  • You MUST submit your Request to be a writer (for either publication) on the ONE designated page, in the form of a RESPONSE
  • You must be sure to use ONLY ONE of the suggested tags, so your story can be properly categorized when it is published

Thank you for reading and I hope to get a myriad of awesome stories!
