Limitation Is A Gift
Constraint breeds creativity
My shrink’s pretty good. And at his price, he’d better be.
At any rate, I was pathetically pouring my heart out to him.
Troubled childhood, abandonment issues, addiction issues, emotional problems, troubled marriage, parental challenges. You know, the usual.
Eventually I get to the part of the story where I’m happy to get older, to slow down, to stop sprinting everywhere all the time.
I’m tired, and merely walking feels good. But there’s a trick.
Without the strength and vigor of youth, I have to find new ways to do things. You can’t just bulldoze your way through anymore.
After a pause, he drops this pearl:
“Limitation is a gift. Without it, you’d never have to change or grow.
There would be no path to wisdom.”
That was a year ago. I’m still thinking about it.
