Thrifty Words 100 Challenge #15: Heroes And Heroines

Michael Jordan was my hero growing up.

He taught me to take flight and momentarily escape the reality of the existential pain and dread that I experienced as a youth.

The Space Jam soundtrack accompanied me in my hours of playing indoor basketball on one of those cheap breakaway rims with the cardboard backboard.

I collected as many of his posters as possible.

They became raggedy over the years and barely clung to my walls with cheap Walmart putty.

Yet they were constant reminders of the man who taught me the elements of genuine hard work, determination, and iron will.
