People say a good idea can be turned into a great business if you put customer value and betterment of solutions that is existing in front of people.

It’s no wonder a good technological solution can bring people together and make life easier for the people of all sectors.

Today I am going to share a story that started with this motive at the very core of a startup.

Every now and then we can see the booming of the technology startups which are thriving the planet and solving the problems of the future. And Bangladesh has a culture of successful startups in recent years. Like Bkash, Pathao, Chaldal, Sheba and many more.

And I also had a privilege of being a valued part of a startup and idea which ran a successful track of history. Today I am going to share the story of that startup and the journey.

The advance of technology is based on making it fit in so that you don’t really even notice it, so it’s part of everyday life.- Bill Gates

That is a quote given by Bill Gates and it is true. Right now we live in a world where we make use of technologies that are part of our everyday life. We talk about it and brainstorm about ideas on a daily basis.

Some of them are groundbreaking some of them are simple yet effective and affecting millions of lives around.

Today I am eagerly bound to tell a story of that kind of Idea and journey that happened with my very life and I am honored being a part of it.

It all started when in the first quarter of 2016 Abir(Founder) and Arnav came to me and had a brainstorming session with me about an idea which can grow people engagement astonishingly.

We saw that opportunity that human lives can be affected in a very positive way with this idea and the challenge was quite impressive enough to fulfill, it took us no time to start with the work.

So the journey of the BuzzAlly begun

We at BuzzAlly tried to make a service which will offer customers and people around the country with no or less internet connectivity to engage with the companies and be part of campaigns by only sending a simple missed call from there day to day usable cell phones.

Let me explain the idea a bit, It will help you, people, to understand how interesting and fun that journey ware for us.

  • We had almost 61.288 million internet users by the end of March 2016 Countrywide.
  • In which only 58.045 million were using the internet from cellphones.
  • On the contrary, our population which was using 131.085 Million cellphones by the end of February 2016. So we had a big gap of the market to reach potential customers or stakeholders around the country which can be part of something big and groundbreaking for social achievement and changing the face of history if used properly.

Our idea was to create a service which can receive a miss call (Pull Method) from a user of any cell phone operator and on the basis of the called number we provided reply call or reply SMS with corresponding data.

How does it work?

Just to give an example: “Let's imagine, an emergency where a user needs to know where the nearest Hospital is or maybe what kind of promotion he or she can avail for current membership, maybe a fisherman want to know current weather or so on…”

  • It was two-way communication.
  • SASS model.
  • Easy to get started with.
  • We can target any individual from any place.
  • We had a dashboard for live analytics for customizing target of any campaign.
  • We provided many more unique features that were helpful for any campaign to succeed and also we were up to provide on-demand custom features. We were unstoppable.

We started to build with a really small team (which is the part/motivation of any StartUp), We had come up with an MVP as soon as possible. To reach the ambition we had and also overcoming the limitations we had at that time.

Oh, And by limitations, we had a lot of them. And those limitations made me and our journey too much fun. We had barely 10 days to release our MVP and two developers to get help from including me. Hours of research meetings and caffeine were needed on the process.

We released our first MVP on the seventh day. And this is how the first version of BuzzAlly launched.

Helping with the growth and getting new values:

We had a great starting, We had partners like one of the renowned meat processing company in Bangladesh and one of the fashion houses to work with at the very start.

And BuzzAlly helped them to get custom audiences and increased their sales by up to 18%.

But it wasn't enough and we were not reaching the goal we had on our mind. We needed investment and global recognition. Yes, it's hard to come by from a third world country. We were looking for a stage where we can prove our product.

On the mid of 2016, we got that chance from Grameenphone accelerator. We were part of the Grameenphone accelerator program and being monitored and taught for betterment by their in-house team, SD Asia, ABC accelerator, 500 startup’s and other local mentoring agencies mentors for almost seven months and yes we were one of two teams to visit attend Telenor Digital Winners Asia From Bangladesh.

That was a whole beginning story, I will share that journey with you people in the next article of this series.
