Submissions are open-ended with no deadline, and guidelines include a word count range of 100 to 4000 words, the use of appropriate tags, and tagging Ellie Jacobson with a link to the article. The prompt is part of the Fleet & Steel publication, but non-members can request to be added.

Lighthouse Creative Writing Prompt

Inspiration for fiction and nonfiction writers

“Lighthouses are not just stone, brick, metal, and glass. There’s a human story at every lighthouse; that’s the story I want to tell.” — Elinor Dewire

Last month, my family and I visit Split Rock Lighthouse in Two Harbors, Minnesota. Inspiration struck as I toured the lighthouse, the keeper’s home, and the lighthouse grounds.

What was it like living there in basic isolation? For the lightkeeper? For the family?

I also wondered why people were drawn to lighthouses? My mother was one such person. She collected anything with a lighthouse: puzzles, books, artwork.
