Lightening the Mind: A Simple Trick for Happiness

Present fears are less horrible than dreadful imaginations

created by aiplayground

In the past, during some very tough days, I was carrying an overwhelming weight and fear in my mind.

It felt as if life’s challenges were too much to bear.

However, on the other side, I found my 4-year-old son was so happy and excited. In all these struggles and tough times, he was chilling with the toys telling cute stories, and asking silly-small questions. I even get pissed off, but then I realized my son was blissfully unaware of the complexities around him.

He was always excited about each day when he wakes up from sleep, completely untouched by the weight that burdened my mind.

It struck me that, despite the challenges, he is joyfully living in the present moment.

Just drop the weight you are carrying.

Day by day, I realized that things began to resolve by themselves — not because I carried the weight heavily, but through the grace of God, eventually, the big storm of problems came to an end!

Infact, I haven’t contributed anything to solve the problems. I was carrying something that I could have unloaded before.

As the bible says Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

No!

Fear and an anxious mind always magnify problems. Once we overcome the fear, the path becomes clear. With the weight we carry, our mind is like turbulent water. It becomes peaceful and quiet once we release the weight on it.

Be like a child.

Reflecting on this, I understood that my son’s happiness wasn’t derived from any extraordinary efforts to solve problems; rather it came from the simplicity of enjoying each day without being weighed down by worries.

I was overestimating myself as a critical problem solver and burdening my mind with that load, but he, on the other hand, enjoyed each present moment joyfully.

From seeing this, I started adopting a lighter perspective.

When the weights are gone, the mind will be free and it makes room for happiness.

My son unknowingly became my teacher by demonstrating his free mind. Don't think that a life without challenges will be happy; instead, being happy in a challenging life is the real deal.
