Light Conquers Darkness
Dancing Elephants Press prompt week 48 of 52 — The Ever So Bright Light

The further I go on my spiritual journey the more I realize that light conquers darkness just as love conquers fear. Suffering comes from resistance. Anxiety comes from trying to understand when the reality is we need to observe and accept each circumstance as it is free from judgement. As I apply the principles of yoga to my daily life a profound understanding resonates and brings calmness and lightens my load.
But I began to think about the many ways light touches me and elevates my mood. Light is something I believe gets underestimated in its importance. there are many meanings and uses of light in my life.
Reflection
Sunlight allows us to see our reflection, known as our shadow. In spiritual work, shadow work is known as looking at my dark side in order to heal. It is a necessary part of growth, albeit painful. We need to look back at the shadow in order to grow forward in freedom. The light allows us to do so. It brings the truth forward and sets us free. It allows forgiveness.
Twinkling Christmas Lights Bring Joy
Whether you are drawn to white lights or colored, large or small, most of us love the magic of Christmas lights during the holidays. It brings out the inner child at every age. I personally love the way little white lights reflect and sparkle in the snow and ice. It makes the long winter nights feel festive and bright.
Candle Light Lifts My Mood
Candles can elevate any situation for me. I love lighting candles both day and night in my home. It brings me peace and comfort to see the flame dancing happily. The glow casts beauty and warmth.
Candles can make my bubble bath more luxurious. Sometimes I soak for over an hour and let my worries melt away.
Lighting candles for dinner sets a romantic tone. Everyone appears softer and more attractive in candlelight. It gives us a healthy glow.
Lighting in Restaurants
It is a complete turnoff for me, no matter the quality of the food, if a restaurant has a sterile, brightly lit environment. I far prefer a warm, dimly lit place. It creates an ambiance that makes me want to stay, open up, and have long conversations. Lighting is essential for setting the tone and mood.
Storms
I love a good thunderstorm. The lightning is a natural show. Provided I am safe in the comfort of my home, I love to snuggle up with a good blanket, turn off all the lights, and watch the sky light up — particularly at night.
Sunrise and Sunsets
The older I get, the more I appreciate the rhythm of nature. I enjoy rising with or before the sun and seeing it grace the day with all her glory. Watching the sunset, particularly on a colorful evening, is a privilege. I would far prefer to spend my time in nature watching the beauty of the sun rising and setting than being in a crowded bar with strangers I will never see again. The natural light of day between the two is also absolute perfection, especially on a sunny day.
And, as Dr. Gabriella Korosi So Beautifully Mentioned, the Light Within Her Recent Story You Can Read Below.
The light we all have within is the most important light of all. It is our divine light. We were born with it. People try to dim that light in our hearts and souls with mean words and actions, but it is a renewable source. Once we stop looking for external validation, practice self-love and acceptance, and stop trying to understand everything, we experience less suffering and anxiety. It is important to observe each situation free from judgment and practice acceptance. Then, the light within you will shine bright and be a beacon for others to follow because you will finally be free to live your authentic life.
Final Thoughts
I love the inspiration here on Medium. I appreciate each fellow writer and, of course, every reader. The prompts are very helpful. I know the editors of each publication work incredibly hard, so a special thank you to all of you. You are each a source of light for me.
I hope when life brings dark heavy times you will find comfort in life’s simple pleasures. Everything is temporary. Light a candle, rest, and allow the light within to glow again.
This article is in response to a prompt on Dancing Elephants Press offered by the ever-so-creative Annelise Lords and shared by Dr. Gabriella Korosi who had lovely photos to display her inspiring version below.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read. Shine on lovely souls.
Peace & Light,
Libby
P.S. I am lighting a candle and saying a prayer for everyone and their families in Florida. Hurricane Idalia sure seems angry and fierce.
