Brian’s plan was to coast through life, much like he coasted going downhill on his bicycle.
But life isn’t all a downhill ride, and coasting got harder as the years went by.
His meal tickets disappeared one by one, and he had to get a job — a real job, nine to five with benefits. Worse, he had to start provisionally, at the bottom of the heap, and work his way up.
Brian wanted to play!
Over the years, he saved every dime. He started his own company.
Now Brian is a mountain bike guide and coasts on those downhill runs.
I know some guys who managed to make mountain biking into lifelong careers. They don’t coast through it, they work their butts off. But they have fun every day.
Drabbles are complete stories with exactly 100 words. They are not only fun to write, they help us develop editing skills! It’s the old “Kill your darlings” with immediate gratification.
