Lifestyle Business Is for the Old, Clumsy, Half-dead People

People miss that point. The bigger problem is: They know it.

Lifestyle business going mainstream doesn’t matter. Many people have completely missed the point.

Lifestyle business by definition means “monetizing your hobbies” and here’s the part that is missed in the definition: “…so you earn short-term money but be dead at the end without a fulfilment of purpose.”

I’m trying to achieve a lifestyle business though. Here’s why you should but shouldn’t.

A lifestyle business is an idea.

A lifestyle business is for the sick, retired, tired of corporate pain, startup politics, real politics, pandemic fear, potential health crisis, zero money in the bank, no child for becoming their stick, or someone who wants some time to keep up with the fast pace of this world.

It’s for the old who can’t work anymore but still have to survive. Survival is their lifestyle. Therefore their business is a lifestyle business.

A lifestyle business is simply a sophisticated version of 9–5. In fact, it’s 25/8. You can’t be out for long and you’ll be replaced worse than a normal job.

Your money comes in with the amount of work you put in, unlike startups.

Getting the initial traction is like throwing a dart without a target. When you do get some kind of traction somehow, you have to sell your soul and start working on things your followers eat rather than what you love making and want the world to smell.

Lifestyle business burns you out. Slowly though.

It’s a pain-in-the-ass to work for others. Lifestyle business ensures you do it for life.

You aren’t your boss. You become your servant.

Here’s what’s completely missed about a lifestyle business: If you are lucky, you get to spend more time with your family but you can’t spend money for your family.

All you can do with a lifestyle business is have enough money to somehow survive a month, not leave generational wealth or invest in something bigger than yourself or have money invested for a future medical emergency.

Lifestyle business means your value isn’t on your efforts anymore.

Working on contents regarding something isn’t a guaranteed living. You’re easily replaceable. You have to constantly know more, be more, do more. The sad part about that is, you have to preach what you don’t practice because you need a backlog of progress and contents to stay relevant.

Plus, you are trapped by the platforms that sustain your lifestyle. One change can take everything away from you and you can’t even easily shift to something else.

A lifestyle business is a mythical but sophisticated idea of get-rich-quick.

Lifestyle business just sustains your life, doesn’t create wealth. Most people miss that point. While you can, if lucky, automate the business, it’s not fulfilling anymore. You aren’t you.

A lifestyle business is for the single.

As per the definition, lifestyle business feels like a business for the single or people without a family. It says it’s all about earning enough that’s enough for sustaining your lifestyle.

If you are single, lifestyle business could be your secret advantage.

Lifestyle business can act your back though.

Lifestyle business can give you the freedom and resources to work on what you love without fear, especially when you don’t have a family to bother about yet. You can spend 20% of your money on something you love: It could be a startup with a mission and purpose.

I learned this: Having a purpose is a true lifestyle. Merge that into a business and you have the true lifestyle business.

Startup life is a true lifestyle business.

I’m trying to have a business with writing so I can work better on my startup and create my lifestyle (fulfilment) without fear or worries.

Lifestyle business stops you from leaping.

The main problem with lifestyle business is, it’s addictive. It gets us into regrets later. It makes us regret later for the chances we didn’t take, the risks we avoided, the things we didn’t try just for being safe.

Safe isn’t safe anymore. Not taking risk is riskier. Realizing that is smarter.

You do need to design your life though.

Designing your life is completely different from having a lifestyle business.

Designing your life means knowing what you want to achieve in your life and how. It’s the values you stand by, the habits you implement, the beliefs that drive you, the actions you daily take, the mindset you have, the hobbies you love, the house you’ll live in, the amount of time and money you’ll spend with your family.

Designing your life equals designing your inner peace.

The good sides about startups people hide.

It’s fun to figure something out the hard way. It’s fun to take a challenge and know nothing. It’s fun to go all in clueless. It’s fun to not know everything. It’s fun to try and fail.

The knowledge you gain trying to run a startup even if you fail is valuable for life, not just for a professional career, but personal relationships as well.

Your youthfulness is your superpower.

If you are in your 20s or 30s, the startup is the best career choice you can go for, especially because you don’t have a family to care about or worry about money yet.

A youth with a startup idea equals trillions.

Your startup can become your lifestyle business this way.

Running a startup means you have to implement what you learn and you’ll learn something new after the implementation too. When you use the learnings for a lifestyle business like writing, you aren’t now preaching what you didn’t practise.

Startups aren’t dead. A lifestyle business is for the dead. There, I said it.

Lifestyle business by definition means monetizing your hobbies and I never saw anyone happy monetizing their passion or hobbies.

A startup is the true lifestyle business. Do you want to support a lifestyle to be short-term happy or have a purpose for long-term fulfilment?
