Life with a Crazy Neighbour

All good until he becomes aggressive

Keeley has a crazy neighbour. We don’t really know if he has some sort of mental problem or if he’s just an annoying person.

His front yard is like an old car yard — we think he has five cars, one boat and one trailer, and he continually moves them around. Leaving at least one on the street cutting down the parking space Keeley has for their two cars.

Aerial shot…can you guess which is his house?

His backyard is unkempt and overgrown and hasn’t been mowed since they moved in almost 12 months ago. He has an odd assortments of metal objects strewn around the yard and he reports seeing red-bellied black snakes. It’s no wonder — snakes love a yard like this.

A few weeks ago, Keeley had solar panels fitted to her new roof. (The old asbestos roof had to be replaced.) About this time, the neighbour put a 3-foot by 2-foot mirror facing outwards in one of his windows. Keeley thought maybe he wanted to catch some solar energy. Ridiculous I know but remember this man is loopy.

Last week, Keeley had carpenters and an electrician building in her carport to make a sunroom aka playroom.

She was washing up at her kitchen sink when she saw the neighbour standing at his closed window with the curtains opened (they are always closed) waving his arms around.

Keeley opened her window and called out, “Can you hear me?”

An aggressive reply followed. “I can HEAR YOU and I can SEE YOU! I thought you’d get the hint from the mirror. When are you going to get blinds?”

Keeley muttered, “Sorry.” And he slammed his curtains shut. I don’t think you can slam curtains but if you could that’s what he did. She walked away and broke down in tears. When she calmed down, she thought about it logically. He NEVER opens his curtains but why does it matter to him whether she has blinds in the kitchen? And who the fuck does he think he is anyway?

I was angry too. I would NEVER have bought blinds to piss him off even more!

Keeley had a better idea. She bought blinds and she leaves them pulled up all day. She only puts them down when she wants to.

Is he happy? Who knows? He still has that mirror up in his window!
