Life Will Go Right If You Let It
Outlining some wins I often overlook.
Each day comes with new surprises and unexpected twists, but it is up to you to make each detail of your day a positive one. Each part of my day goes right because I let it. I simplified my contribution to bullet points:
Great Point #1 — Me time
Today, I woke up and went to the gym (like I always do). I am a creature of habit, so from 6 am-7:30 am, you’ll find me pushing and pulling things in a stinky, overcrowded gym. Nevertheless, I love starting the day with just my thoughts and Justin Beiber blaring into my headphones. Most think I am listening to hardcore music, but nope, Beiber or Grande are my choices this month. They put me in the right mindset for the day.
Great Point #2 — Going to work
I showered, slipped on a shirt, pants, and running shoes, and went to work. It’s a great point because I only have a few days left with my company. It’s sad, I guess, but it’s also fantastic because I will be reunited with my wife and two boys.
Great Point #3 — Coffee
Yes. I wait until I get to work to have some well-deserved caffeine. Saving things you take for granted, like a natural adrenaline spike right upon waking, is a gift. I can only have coffee if I am on time, which I always am! So, I grabbed some day-old Dunkin from the break room, microwaved that bad boy, and drank it happily in my office.
Great Point #4 — Helping others
Being in the role I am in; I get to help a lot. Whether moving furniture, talking to vendors, or building proposals for review, I like to help. I love to see how thankful people are for taking time out of their day to assist with some random task.
Great Point #5 — Writing
I love writing but suck at it. I know that I can get better with practice, but for right now, I’d give myself a solid D+ (still passable!). I feel a form of accomplishment when I finish a piece for publication or a note for my bullet journal.
Great Point #6 — Coaching
I have the gift to help others academically. Academic coaching online is the greatest blessing. I’ve enjoyed every second of it. The people I meet are complex, confusing, and resistant, but you see their potential unfold with time. It’s remarkable, and I am thankful for it every day.
A lot of “great points” in your day add up. As I wrote these out, I need to be thankful that I had some fantastic things happen today. Imagine if you just reflected on positive notes each time you got home from work. It would be life-changing.
Take the time to write out what went well in your day and stop whining. Complaining brings you three steps back, but reminiscing on the good brings you forward a step. No one likes the guy who talks crap about everything in their life. People like happy people; I’m willing to bet you could find about 4539204823 articles about the benefits of positive talk.
That is all. I appreciate you if you read this.
I want to remind you that you are a gifted, talented, and wonderful person. So keep living and enjoy life.
