Life Lessons
A poem: a celebration of mothers
Firm foundation of morality is laid down when our mothers teach us lessons of honesty. How they make a big deal about one innocent lie. We try for the first time. Fearlessness of facing life head-on is instilled in us when they tell us to stand up after falling. Bruised knees are calmly taped up, and tears are wiped away.
First day of school when we step out on our own is equally terrifying for them. They put up a brave face and happily usher us inside while anxiously waiting outside. Foresightedness to encourage us to master skills makes them a disciplinarian. All our threatening insinuations and complaints fall on her deaf ears.
Flexibility to adapt gets ingrained into our brains when mothers willingly change. They individualize parenting styles for each one of us. First lessons on how to tackle friendships and love are also taught by our mothers. They take a keen interest in nurturing all our relationships.
