Life Is The One Celebration
GiaB prompt #2–7: celebrations

The pandemic has changed so many things It’s forced me to rethink celebrations Birthdays still happen if no one else sings Does each year notched up need jubilation?
Yes, Christmas is great, but why all the fuss? I just want us all to be together Jesus says don’t stress coz he’s among us Blessed mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers
Does a marriage really need a wedding with all its pomp and ceremony for two people agreeing to living a joint life spent in love and harmony?
Life: the one celebration to consume Rejoice each day; no more parties on Zoom!

You can call me a party pooper if you like but I really don’t see the point in celebrating for the sake of celebrating. Especially if it means over-the-top extravagance, expense, excess and effluent. And don’t get me started on Zoom!
Living large slabs of the last two years in lockdown (I’m in Melbourne, the lockdown capital of the world) has only cemented my belief that we’ve let ourselves be consumed by consumerism for far too long.
The pandemic forced us to go without and by doing so, it has allowed us to take stock of our priorities. For me, that means valuing connectedness with people and place — playing with my grandchildren, face-to-face chats with family and friends, a walk along the beach, a drive in the country, a bowl of fresh, succulent cherries! 🍒
There’s something sustainable about celebrating the small stuff and turning those experiences into unique memories. ❤️
