Life is Simple if You Let it Be
“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.” ― Confucius
A major problem of this world is that we were never taught to live a simple life. The system’s proponents teach us to always want more and complicate things by confusing us with its rubbish mantra.
Simplicity? No, you need to buy this and that, only then can you be at peace. As time goes by and we wonder why we aren’t happy even though we bought everything we could, we realize that peace and happiness come from within by leading a simple life close to nature.
The school system is where our young minds are educated to fit society’s norms. We think schools are educational institutions getting us ready to live a good life, when in reality, they mold us into ‘model citizens’ the system needs to continue its hold on society.
All throughout school, and especially in college, we are taught the rewards of the system as a way to motivate us and keep us in check. If you go to college, graduate in four years with a high GPA, you will be able to get a well-paying job after graduation. Then, you will be able to buy a house on mortgage, buy a car on loans, buy whatever is the latest smartphone on a plan, so you will have everything you need to lead a happy life. This is the system’s rewards.
It also threatens us with its punishments. If you don’t do the above things, you won’t be able to buy anything, thus, won’t be happy and you will be considered an outcast in society. Nobody will respect you and you will live a poor and unhappy life.
This is just one way to live life. And, it is the way the system wants us to live. But this world is so vast and rich that we have to realize that there are infinite ways to live a life and be happy.
“Manifest plainness, Embrace simplicity, Reduce selfishness, Have few desires.” ― Lao Tzu
My way is to create a small circle, put my loved ones, nature, and activities that bring me joy in that circle and live within it. Just stay in that circle and have limited exposure to the outside world. Be close to nature and away from the consumer’s world.
A simple way is a great way to live your life. It is free of all the unnecessary things that the system wants us to buy so there is only space for the absolute necessities. I don’t know about you all but this is my way to live my life. I hope you will one day find your way.
“A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one’s neighbor — such is my idea of happiness.” ― Leo Tolstoy, Family Happiness
