Life Is Nothing But Preparation For Death

Preparing for death means we can make things a lot easier, not only for ourselves but also for those we left behind

Although death is an inevitable part of life, most of us do not even want to discuss it, let alone prepare for it. Preparing for death is what a Medium member, George J. Ziogas here once wrote about Sweedish Death Cleaning, (see below).

It is about tidying up simple things, like writing your will, getting important documents, like your insurance ready and ensuring clear instructions about your wishes, including how you want your funeral to be.

Most of us believe we are always in control, but with death, even with a bad prognosis, we don’t know when the time is up. The Bible says like the day of the Lord, it will come like a thief in the night. The feeling of not knowing what to do is always there, leading to frustration and not accepting our morality. Preparing for our death means we can end up with peace of mind knowing we have put our house in order.

Make A Will

The first and most important preparation is making a will. A will is a document in which you state what happens to your assets after your death. A will can also save your loved ones from paying unnecessary inheritance tax, (as opposed to you dying intestate).

You can also express the type of funeral you prefer, and whether you will want any medical procedure should you become unwell. Some of this may not be legally binding, depending on the type of illness.

Sort Out Your Finances

This is making a detailed list of all your bank accounts, with any financial obligations, like, loans, insurances, direct debits, mortgages, car loans, credit cards and standing orders.

It is important to state your insurance, and whom you put down as the next of kin in the insurance documents. If you have a funeral plan in place, you will need to state this as well.

Prepare For Death Digitally

We are all in an age of social media, and it is important to ensure we write down all our passwords to our social media accounts, to enable access when our loved ones are ready. This will include sharing the location of important documents that relate to membership in our social media groups.

Also, make a list of those your family needs to contact about your death.
