Life Is Not Always Good. And That’s a Good Thing
A little negativity can make you see the beauty with other eyes

Life can sometimes have negativity in it. You are experienced, I’m doing it, and that movie star that you secretly love, is doing it.
“The desire for more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, the acceptance of one’s negative experience is itself a positive experience. (p.9)” ― Mark Manson, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life
Imagine having the possibility to learn something from a bad experience but not doing it, because you search only for the positive aspect of life. Unfortunately, there are people who do this on regular basis and they go through life hiding from that.
You don’t want to hide. You are eager to learn from your mistakes and the negativity that surrounds you to get to the other side with a more complex understanding of life.
I’ve buried lots of bad experiences and negativity in general throughout my life, in hopes that everything will go away. And I forget sometimes that I need those exact experiences because that will help me grow.
I want that for you, too.
Extreme positivity can harm your views on life
All those ‘how to have a better life doing five things in the morning” are exhausting.
It gives you a view about life that’s not normal for the real world. Those ‘be happy in three steps’ are hiding you the nasty part of life, giving you the impression that if you wake up at five in the morning and meditate for 17 hours, you’ll be a better person.
Eventually, you’ll find yourself split from real life, living in a state of mind that has no meaning for the outside world. But you live in a society, and whether you want or not, you need to play by its rules. So is important to learn from your own mistakes, negativity, and down-sides, because life’s that way.
The outside world is harsh but you forget that sometimes. You read three or four articles about how to be a better human, and think that everyone on the planet has been reading the same article. They have not.
I want to pass on to you some truth about the outside world. It would be simple for me to sit on my computer and write some mega-epic-positivity article that left you in awe and day-dreaming about how great life is. But I choose not to because if we’re lying we will not become the better persons we want to be.
And I say we because I’m in the same situation with writing. I read tons of articles about writing articles and when I finish them I believe I’m a better writer without putting a single word on paper. But I know I’m lying to myself just to feel better.
Don’t ignore the bad part. Embrace it and run with it
You buried the negativity deep down and choose to reshape your experiences to fit into your new perspective. That means that are times when even when something bad happens to you, you decide to ignore it forcing yourself to see the good.
I didn’t get that promotion but is a good thing because it was too much of a responsibility.
I didn’t pass that exam but it is a good thing because now I have time to learn more.
And so on until you end up learning nothing from that experience.
It’s not pleasant to be put in the face of negativity. But if you run from it, it will follow you like Michael Myers follows those poor teens at the summer camp. And even if you run faster, the negativity will walk at a pace, and eventually, it will reach you after you stumble on the ground.
A little negativity can make you see the beauty with other eyes
“Behind every beautiful thing, there’s some kind of pain.” ― Bob Dylan
Negativity is part of life. You can’t escape it and you can’t outrun it. Instead, you need to embrace it and make something more from it. Remodel it so that every piece of it can be perfect for the person you are.
Embrace everything that life throws at you and be majestic about it. Perfection is not something you want, because if we're perfect, guess what? We‘d all be mediocre.
So take your imperfection and parade with it, be proud of it, and welcome it because that’s what made you unique.
