Life Is Fleeting, Follow Your Heart
Will your dreams end up in the graveyard?

Today has been one of those reflective days for me.
I received my qualification as a MINDBODY Practitioner and Holistic Life Coach and it got me thinking back to when I first had the idea of chasing my dreams.
They seemed like an impossible encounter, just another one of those ideas, hopes, and visions that ended up shoved to the back of my mind.
The place where dreams go to die.
But something was different this time.
Something set a fire underneath me that has seen me put the work in every day for 5 years to get to the point I am today. A place where I feel like I could cry when I think about how grateful I am for the life I live now and for the direction I am going in.
This is not a piece about doing more, being more, earning more.
It’s about finding what excites you in life. What gives you intrinsic motivation to show up every day to make these exciting dreams a reality so that you can also feel like you could burst with gratitude for the life you live?
It can be staying home to nurture your family, starting a business, completing a marathon, opening an animal shelter, having the ability to work from home and have lunch with your family every day.
It doesn’t matter what it is as long as it gives you one thing.
Excitement.
That’s what was different for me this time around. Working weekdays after my 9–5 or every weekend on my dreams doesn’t feel like work to me because it’s something that gives me so much energy.
When I was thinking about this piece a quote came to mind that has stuck with me for a very long time.
It’s from Steve Jobs’s 2005 commencement speech at Standford University. The speech is a 15-minute long video on YouTube that you can find here, but one part struck me.
“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure — these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”
Every time doubt has started to creep into my mind I think back to this. I think back to the fact that I am going to die one day, why wouldn’t I give this one chance I have at life everything I have?
A sobering fact that is enough to give anyone a kick in the arse!
So if you are sitting there reading this piece and there is a goal, lifestyle, or anything you wish was part of your life, take the first step to go after it.
You might not get it tomorrow, but I can tell you that in 5 years you will be a hell of a lot closer than you were if you did nothing.
