Summary

Jill and Chris, two Canadian artists from Artistic Voyages, are staying in a house in rural Bulgaria, where they face connectivity challenges due to the lack of wifi and cell service, but are embracing the opportunity to disconnect and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Abstract

The artists, who have been nomadic since 2017, are currently hosted in a house outside Gabrovo, Bulgaria, thanks to their friend Ahmed. Despite the lack of internet access and uncertainty about the public bus schedule, they remain positive and adaptable. They plan to find alternative ways to access the internet and view this situation as a sign to slow down and take a break. The couple paints free murals in exchange for accommodation and invites followers to support them through Ko-fi and subscribe to their content via various platforms.

Life In Rural Bulgaria

Wifi is not at the top of the priority list!

We are currently staying outside a small town in the center of Bulgaria called Gabrovo. We visited Gabrovo on our previous visit to Bulgaria back in 2015. Before coming here, we contacted our friend, Ahmed, and he told us that he would set us up with a house to stay in while we visited.

We were thrilled by this and are very appreciative of the hospitality. However, the house has no wifi and we don’t have Bulgarian numbers yet. Plus we are told there is no cell phone service out there either.

The house is also 20 minutes outside of town. We asked what the public bus schedule is and nobody seems to know. One guy says he thinks it runs every 2 hours.

So we have hit a challenge, as you can well imagine. Our biggest criterion with this lifestyle is some sort of access to the internet. Even if it means coming into town to get it, that access needs to be available.

Like all things in this life, we will find a way through it. It will just take us a couple of days to readjust and find a new solution. Until then, you may not hear from me as regularly as I would like.

We are happy, though, to be surrounded by quiet nature and trees and are taking this as a sign that maybe we need to slow down and take a break for a couple of days.

Hi there, we are 2 Canadians, Jill and Chris from Artistic Voyages. We have been nomadic since 2017 living in numerous different countries, and experiencing the life and diversity of our planet on the ground and firsthand. We paint FREE murals in exchange for accommodation. Consider tipping us on Ko-fi!
