Life as a Movie Experience — Villains, Heroines, and Love

Conquering outer challenges and inner demons and the universal message of love

Imagine watching a movie where the main character is perfect, winning every battle and overcoming every challenge with absolute ease. Snooze-fest, right?

The more adversity they face, the more thrilling the movie becomes. You get drawn into their journey as they learn, grow, and become a heroine.

Life is a lot like that.

I often think the idea that many self-help gurus sell of living a perpetually happy, dream-like existence, where you get everything you desire 24/7, is a B-grade movie teaser. It’s just clickbait. I mean, there’s so much chatter about living happily ever after, like some fairy tale prince or princess, you might as well be on the Disney channel. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, they’re probably at each other’s throats.

The movie analogy is a good one because the parallels to life are actually there. They might seem all red carpets and perfectly rehearsed scenes on the outside, but really, it's a lot of hard work and problems, all for a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment on screen.

The thing about the adventure movie called ‘Life’ we’re all starring in is this - we all know how it ends. We all check out eventually. So we need to make the most of the experience. Grab the popcorn!

Life Has a Dual Storyline Part One — The Outside

You’ve got your outside journey; it’s got its fair share of villains, and most of them are visible. Heartbreak, betrayal, financial roller coasters, and the occasional bout of illness. You might even live in a place with a less-than-stellar government ( are there even any good ones? ).

Just like in a movie, the more adversity you face, the more room you have to grow and get stronger. Then you might even achieve something so big that it screams, “I conquered adversity!”

But life loves a plot twist. So, even if you’ve made it big, be prepared for setbacks further down the road. Cos it ain’t over yet.

If you’re still in your 20s or 30s, consider this a heads-up. You older folks will know what I mean. Big changes often lurk around the corner in your 40s and 50s. You might think you’ve seen and done it all by 35, but trust me, that villain always has a second life and strikes again the moment your back is turned.

Life Has a Dual Storyline Part Two — The Inside

Now, let’s dive deep into the juicy part of the story, where things get interesting.

Some folks do shy away from this part of the journey. They like to keep it superficial, paddling around in the kiddie pool of life’s cinematic experience. They opt for the HBO rom-com, nothing too heavy, just neat, predictable plots and endings.

But remember, we all exit the movie eventually, with no exceptions.

On that basis, you might as well star in your own Ridley Scott masterpiece. Go for those character arcs, that plot development. Let those adventures carry a deeper meaning, a universal message.

This is where the villain isn’t just some external force trying to destroy you, but your own shadow self, too. Here, you wrestle with inner demons that lead you on a far more profound journey. This is where you experience awakenings, satori, elevating your consciousness.

It might be a tough ride, but this is where true wisdom resides, and you level up in the game.

As Within So Without and The Movie Screen of Life

When I reflect on the tapestry of life I’m reminded of the Hermetic Axiom:

“As above, so below, as within, so without, as the universe, so the soul…”

Life, much like the movies, mirrors the dualities of our inner and outer worlds. Today, where conflict, corruption, and confusion dominate the headlines, it becomes evident that our external reality is in need of transformation. Both individually and collectively.

The chaos we witness on the outside is a reflection of the turmoil within us.

Just as in the most gripping movies, this is the narrative of our human experience - the drama, the suspense, and hopefully the triumph.

What happens if we remove the screen?

When the final credits roll and we find ourselves staring at a blank screen, what will truly endure?

It must be love, not just the romantic kind, but the profound and universal love for life itself. A love that transcends the physical realm and extends its embrace into the spiritual dimensions of our existence.

When the lights go on in the theatre, and we stop watching this epic life movie, love must be the ultimate movie director, the driving force that can heal the wounds of our world.

We have to wake up from this horror movie and rewrite the script of our collective journey to usher in an era of ‘real’ compassion, peace, and progress for our entire race.
