Life And Its Precious Memories.

Dancing Elephants Press weekly Prompt 33 of 52

Our stories in life keep on changing. Our memories are precious and priceless.

When you close your eyes and your mind wanders back through your stages of life so many incidents are worth recalling. They are beautiful.

Think of any such memory and share it with us

When we are young we spend time with our parents. Our memories with our parents remain.

We then go to school and we have a lot of stories to share. With time we grow up and forget some things and remember others.

Do we really forget these memories? Somewhere or the other they get stored in our memories.

Then we go to higher education and we have fun. We go to picnics, we enjoy movies, we make friends and some even become couples. Some decide to get married early but some like to remain single and feel the experiences of life.

As adults, we go to work and meet many people from different walks of life. Each of these are wonderful or bitter experience but we have them stored with us.

Is it possible to forget it all? Some people say they do forget. Majority of the people forget for a short time but when they sit quietly and calmly they do remember so many things.

If you went to a certain place with your parent and really enjoyed being there or did not enjoy it but later you enjoyed it a lot and you begin to recall why you felt it was not enjoyable then. Looking back such a memory should never have been lost.

Like I remember so vividly and clearly

1️⃣I remember when my mother first made me Santa Clause at a Christmas Fancy dress party, I cried so much and pouted and was angry. I don’t want to be a man I thought. When I won the first prize I thanked my mom and felt so elated.

Looking back, it was such a creative thing to do to be a man and for people not to recognize me. Why should I be a pretty doll always?

My mother also made me a tea cozy once and I was so upset but when I look back I think my mom was more creative than me.

There are always more ways to think about in our life and we should not always be in a box.

I am sure there are pleasant incidents that come back in your memory too.

2️⃣Choice of new dresses: There are family traditions when everyone wore new clothes and celebrated a certain festival together. We often forget when we grow up but these are precious memories.

I remember that on every birthday, Diwali, and New Year, I loved to choose my new dress. My mom stitched beautiful frocks with smoking but on one occasion I wanted to go round and round in a frock with a lot of flair and wanted to buy only from the market.

When I think of that day, I wish I had not bought from the market. My mother’s frock was my pride. Her embroidery was excellent and loved by all. Today if I had a choice I would never buy from the market.

3️⃣ Farewell Day: When I was in high school and we had a farewell party I have great memories that I wanted to look special and wanted to wear a sari with heels. I still remember I did not care whether I fell down or could walk straight or not, I wanted to wear stilettoes with pencil heels.

I still love the feel of the high heels and enjoyed them so much on that day. I forgot for so long but today I remember how much I enjoyed my school farewell.

4️⃣My first day at work: My first day at a corporate office. I was still a post-graduate student and had not completed my masters when I joined as an assistant accountant. When I was asked to open the ledgers, I did not know how to do it.

It all seemed Greek to me. I don’t know Greek and I don’t understand ledgers I thought at that time. I remember how I went back and read my books and learned about them.

Reality is so different from just learning as a student. Experience is such a good thing and I was lucky to get a job while still a master's student. So I remember so many things. It helps me to improve myself.

These stories are full of lessons and inspire me to think creatively and also make me strive to constantly improve myself.

Do your stories inspire you? Do they make you think and reflect on the past? Do your stories pave the way for self-improvement?
