Library of Lights

poetry prompt: illumination

Photo by Amelie & Niklas Ohlrogge on Unsplash

we walk among the shelves of this growing library, shelved by the minute with more information, some logged and documented to never be revisited again for eternity;

some inaccessible without the right lock and key;

but with the right illumination you might be able to bring to fore the right memory, the right story, the right information.

Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) was prompted by Carlos Garbiras to try out this prompt from GiaB from Victor Sarkin from a while back! (I was too late for the prompt deadline though, unfortunately!)

The prompt is: illumination. For me, what I immediately thought about was this old theory of working memory where we have a library of knowledge and experiences (long-term memory) that gets “illuminated” or “spotlighted” the moment we access them in the present. I really liked that analogy of walking through the halls of a library and only being able to bring forth the right information with the right cue, the right spotlight. It’s eerie but also familiar, in a way.

I also wanted to shout out Illumination, for being an incredibly supportive publication focussed on spotlighting and supporting new and budding writers.
