Why a Jaffa Cake is Not a Biscuit!
When is a biscuit not a biscuit?
It’s now time for an important subject… biscuits.
What is your favourite biscuit to munch upon? Are you a ‘dunka kinda’ person?
Me, I love a custard cream, but a bourbon has to be a close second. In 2019, the CDA surveyed the nation and it turns out the most favourite biscuit in the UK was, ***drum roll***, please… A Jaffa Cake.
JAFFA CAKE! c’mon it’s in the name. A Jaffa cake is NOT a biscuit. For a start, it’s soft, too soft, fluffy soft! It’s made of a sponge. This wasn’t the only thing that irritated me. Get this a bourbon came in at number 3 and what of the custard cream? Number blinking 5! Say WHAT?
This great cake debate actually went to court in 1991. Jaffa cakes were legally considered a cake! However, this means having a cake status meant that VAT no longer had to be paid. You see biscuits covered in chocolate are apparently seen as a luxury item — they cost more.
What are your thoughts on Jaffa CAKEs being biscuits or as the name implies CAKEs? What are your favourite biscuits
