Let’s Go For a Walk…
I love who I have been, but I really love who I am becoming.

When this year started, I have created a list of resolutions as usual and added to keep myself fit and active this year, aren’t we all have the same goal? We all have fitness goals in our minds and add them as a new year resolution or a birthday wish.
But how many of us follow it thru for an entire month or a year? Sometimes, we give up in a week or a month, or a few months.
I have been in that situation as well, where I am like, I’ll start from tomorrow or I’ll start from next week, and so on.
If somehow I manage to do it for a week or a month, life happens and again I’m back to my usual.
As people say, life will go on, we need to make time for ourselves. There is always a question of how to keep motivating yourself and do better every single day.
Being healthy or fit is not a phase or a sprint, it’s a lifestyle and lifelong commitment to be active, fit, and be our best version.

Most important thing is to keep going. At May end of this year, I needed to make some plans so that I can enjoy this summer.
What is the simple way to start enjoying summer, what you said, barbecue? yes of course, but for me, it’s walking around my neighborhood.
To be honest, I had no specific plan, just 30 minutes walk. But within a week I realized, I actually started loving my little routine and it changed my mood and mind completely as I started progressing with my walk every day.
Till today I didn’t skip a day of my outside walk and now I’m celebrating more than 100 days of continuous outside walking.
So now the question is how it improved me, right? and how I kept myself motivated.
When you become a walker, it changes your life. But you may not know how much it improves every aspect. Here’s the evidence, let me give some perspective here.
Observing little things
I have walked around my block for more than 100 days now. I find something new, and different every day, and I wonder why I haven’t noticed it earlier.
It significantly changed my thinking as well. At work side, also I started paying more attention to details, and my work quality, and interaction with the team also positively changed.
If you want to start with your walk, why not start today and enjoy little nature once in a while?
Lace-up and hit the road, because one of the surprising benefits of walking is that it can directly affect your brain in the short and long term.
When I started walking around my neighborhood, I looked at nature, people, and surroundings differently.
Sense of calmness
My daily walk gives me a sense of easiness in my routine even though I’m spending around 45 minutes every day walking. If I’m stressed out about something, my walk is giving me a new perspective to deal with the situation and how can I overcome it.
It made me more positive. I am sure if you like walking, you can feel the difference too. One of the biggest benefits of walking is its mood-boosting effects.
If you haven’t noticed yet, the benefits of walking go way beyond the physical. Many people find that time alone allows them to think and problem-solve.
Taking a walk break from stressful office work can help you return feeling refreshed and insightful. A mounting body of research shows that meditation can boost your gray matter, improve focus, and fight depression and anxiety.
Enjoying Nature
Everyone loves nature and I love it because it makes me feel better. Do you know how some days everything just seems out of whack? When you just feel down for no good reason?
Within 15 minutes I reset my focus and I feel like I’ve walked my cares away. I’m reminded that nothing is worth stressing over. When I’m on a walk, I can solve problems — no obstacle is too much to overcome.

Walking does open the door to nature! All you have to do is walk outside and see what’s all around you. My mood has improved too. I believe that walking is the perfect activity.
It hasn’t always been easy for sure; there were days I walked in the rainy dark days. But the accomplishment is a joy. And what the world needs more than anything, what I need more than anything is more joy.
New Friends
When you go for a walk, you are bound to meet people and share a laugh or just talk and get a glimpse of their life journey. It made me realize the end of the day we are more or less the same and want almost the same things in our life.
One of the things is happiness and being content with who we are. Many of you may relate to this point. Our journey may look different and the way we want to achieve things also looks different but at the end of the day, the goal is the same.
I am glad I met a few amazing people on my walk and their life journey is always going to be close to my heart. It’s easy to rush around in your car and miss your surroundings.
Once I began walking, I discovered beautiful gardens, trees, new trails, and houses that I had never noticed. I began greeting the people I see every day, getting to know them and their dogs.
I’m not saying that walking is easy or that life is easy. Neither are.
But walking is measurable; we count the miles and minutes; we can see where we were at the beginning of our journey, and how far we have come. This teaches a simple truth; Effort produces results, and no effort produces nothing. The effort is worth it.
Getting my heart rate up, getting outside, weight lifting, and getting out of my mind and into my body for at least 30 minutes every day has been the best thing I’ve ever done for my mental and physical health.
Something about walking gives me a whole new perspective on life. Maybe it’s the fresh air or maybe it’s the act of walking allowing me time to myself and giving me the space to calm down after work.
Walking for me is a gift and a joy to be honest. I always look forward to my walks and fitting them in whenever I can. Walking is an exercise that I want to do and will continue to do.
“My mama always said you got to put the past behind you before you can move on. And I think that’s what my running was all about. I had run for three years, two months, 14 days, and 16 hours.” — Forest Gump
The biggest thing I’ve learned is that for me to stick with something, it needs to be a habit that makes me feel better both in the moment and long term.
Exercising every day works because getting outside or even just moving away from my laptop feels good.
I know for a fact that on my walk, something or someone will spark a new thought. The simple act of letting go and wandering helps me access ideas I’ve filed away in my head.
Last and not least, walking has added so much joy to my life! Movement is a gift; I always look forward to a walk. I never see it as something I have to do, I want to do it.
I hope this has inspired you to get your walking shoes on and start walking.
Always remember, every journey needs a first step. Why wait, let’s start today.
Do share your fun story and experience when you’re out on your walk or a run. Can’t wait to hear them out.
