Let’s Go Chasing Waterfalls

What beautiful feats of nature they are

Authors Image- Coastal Waterfall, Upolu

I love bodies of water, but I have to say, waterfalls are one of my favourite types.

I love that they come in all shapes and sizes, from huge waterfalls with crashing amounts of water, to small creek types with gentle streams.

I remember a while ago reading somewhere that within symbolism, waterfalls signify the process of letting go and the continuous flow of life.

I resonate with this deeply and love that waterfalls are in a constant state of flow and change.

Here are a few of my favourite waterfalls that I have come across on my travels.

Bali

There is a funny story behind this one because not long after this was taken my friend and myself sustained a bunch of small but painful injuries.

She wanted me to film her walking across a log and she slipped and fell.

The current was pretty strong towards the falls and at one point I crashed against a huge rock scraping my whole right side and was covered in cuts and bruises and broke my GoPro in the process.

We both were ok though, luckily we weren’t as injured as we could have been and we had a good laugh about it after.

Sydney

Authors Image- Katoomba Falls

Upon a trip to the Blue Mountains in Sydney, my friends and I followed a trail to Katoomba Falls.

You cant see it in this picture but to the right was an incredible view overlooking the whole area, as these falls are situated on the cliffside.

The combination of the falls and the view were spectacular, there were also a few cockatoos roaming around the area too; a true Aussie experience.

Chiang Mai

Authors Image- The Sticky Waterfalls, Chiang Mai

My friend (who I’d only just met in Bangkok) and I arrived at our hostel in Chiang Mai and got talking to two girls there who invited us to check out a waterfall with them.

I loved the spontaneity and before we knew it, we were off on an adventure.

These falls are called The Sticky Waterfalls because unlike normal waterfalls which are usually slippery, the rocks had a grip which meant we could climb up and down the falls with ease.

The mineral deposits caused the rocks to have this effect hence the name.

Raglan

Authors Image- Bridal Veil Falls, Raglan

My friends and I took a weekend-long road trip to Raglan and stayed in the most dreamy Airbnb, it looked like something out of a movie.

One of the points of interest we sought out was the Bridal Veil Falls. We followed a forest trail to get to the falls and I loved it so much, it felt like true nature immersion.

The experience was incredibly grounding and felt astoundingly healing.

Lake Louise

Authors Image- Frozen falls at Lake Louise

I had never seen a frozen waterfall before until I lived in Canada.

This may sound silly, but I actually didn’t know that waterfalls could even freeze.

But it really does get that cold here so it shouldn’t have come as a surprise.

I find frozen waterfalls so fascinating to look at, they transform into a light blue colour, giving the impression that it is glowing which feels so magical.

Upolu

Authors Image- Fuipisia waterfall, Upolu

My friend and I came across these falls as we were driving around the island of Upolu in Samoa.

We actually walked through the little forest on the right to get to the top of the falls.

The path was extremely muddy, and when I say muddy I am not exaggerating.

We left our shoes behind and walked to the top of the falls. I was knee-deep in mud but I didn’t care, it was a really great experience.

It was so surreal to be standing at the top of the falls looking down, though I can’t deny that I was a bit scared that I’d misstep and fall all the way down.

Dalat

Authors Image- Thác Pongour, Dalat

We travelled by scooter to these falls that were located close to our hostel in Dalat, Vietnam.

I found these falls to be incredibly unique and felt that they resembled stairs.

If you are feeling brave you can climb up them but they are really slippery. That didn’t stop some of my friends who climbed up and got absolutely soaked.

Waterfalls are such a beautiful feat of nature, they can be both soothing and energizing at the same time.

I love seeking out waterfalls, whether they are well-known ones or hidden gems because no two waterfalls ever are the same.

Waterfalls are ever-changing, the water flowing through is never the same.

I hope you enjoyed my waterfall collection.

Always chase waterfalls.
